Ya Wajihi Annaha Habbat Riyahu as-Su'ud

Imam Abdallah Ibn Alawi Al-Haddad

Yā wajīhi annahā habbat riyāḥu as-suʿūdi, Waʾawmaḍa al-barqu fī ad-dājī min aqṣā an-nujūdi

O Wajih, the winds of good fortune have blown, and lightning has flashed in the dark from the farthest uplands.

Dhakkarānī layālin qad khalat ḥawla hūdi, Shiʿbu qabri an-nabī al-mursali wafiyyi al-ʿuhūdi

They reminded me of nights gone by around Hud, the ravine of the tomb of the Prophet sent, faithful to his covenants.

Yā layālī ar-riḍā ʿūdī liyakhḍarra ʿūdī, Bi-al-liqā wa-at-tadānī baʿda ṭūli aṣ-ṣudūdi

O nights of contentment, return, that my branch may grow green with meeting and nearness after long rejection.

Yā ʿurayba al-ḥimā riqqū liṣabbin ʿamīdi, Warḥamū man dumūʿuh jarraḥat bi-al-khudūdi

O dear Arabs of the sanctuary, be tender to a lovesick lover, and have mercy on one whose tears have wounded his cheeks.

Kullamā lāḥa bāriq fawqa wādī zarūdi, Wastahalla al-ḥayā al-mughdiq waḥanna ar-ruʿūdi

Whenever lightning gleams over the valley of Zarud, and the abundant rain pours forth and the thunder yearns,

Bāta sahrāna mā yahnā ladhīdha ar-ruqūdi, Min tadhakkuri ʿayshin marra bayna al-ʿudūdi

He spends the night sleepless, unable to enjoy sweet sleep, remembering a life that passed among the springs,

Wa-ar-rubā wa-al-masāyil wa-al-waṭā wa-as-sunūdi, Ḥayyi tilka al-majāmiʿ ḥayyi tilka al-wufūdi

The hills, the watercourses, the plains and the slopes. Greet those gatherings, greet those delegations!

Ḥayyi ʿīdan bihā fāqat ʿalā kulli ʿīdi, Maʿ rijāli al-wafā min munsabīna al-judūdi

Greet a festival there that surpassed every festival, with men of faithfulness of noble ancestry,

Wa-al-muḥibbīna lillāhi al-waliyyi al-ḥamīdi, Rabbi al-ʾarbābi dhī al-ʿarshi ar-raḥīmi al-wadūdi

And those who love Allah, the Protector, the Praiseworthy, Lord of lords, Lord of the Throne, the Merciful, the Loving.

Hal tarā ʿād yarjaʿ mā maḍā yā murīdī, Aw yaʿūdu al-ladhī qad fāta yā mustaʿīdī

Do you think what has passed will ever return, O my disciple? Or will what is gone come back, O you who long for it again?

Aw huwa al-buʿdu ḥattā najtamiʿ fī al-luḥūdi, Fī rajā raḥmati ar-rabbi al-karīmi al-majīdi

Or is it distance until we meet in the graves, in hope of the mercy of the Generous, Glorious Lord?

Nartajī minhu yuskinnā jināna al-khulūdi, Fī jiwāri an-nabī al-mukhtāri zayni al-wujūdi

We hope He will make us dwell in the Gardens of Eternity, near the Chosen Prophet, the adornment of existence,

Aḥmada ash-shāfiʿi al-maqbūli yawma al-wurūdi, Waʾālihi aṭ-ṭāhirīna ar-rākiʿīna as-sujūdi

Ahmad, the intercessor whose intercession is accepted on the Day of Arrival, and his pure family, who bow and prostrate.
