يا إمام الرسل

يَا إِمَامَ الرُّسْلِ يَا سَنَدِيأَنْتَ بَابُ اللهِ مُعْتَمَدِي

Yā imāma ar-rusli yā sanadī, Anta bābu Allāhi muʿtamadī

O Leader of the Messengers, O my support; you are the Gate of Allah upon whom I rely.

فَبِدُنْيَايَ وَآخِرَتِييَا رَسُولَ اللهِ خُذْ بِيَدِي

Fabidunyāya waʾākhiratī, Yā rasūla Allāhi khudh biyadī

Regarding my worldly life and my Hereafter—O Messenger of Allah—take me by the hand.

قَسَمًا بِالنَّجْمِ حِينَ هَوَى

Qasamanā bi-an-najmi ḥīna hawā

By the star as it descends, I swear—

مَا الْمُعَافَى وَالسَّقِيمُ سَوَى

Mā al-muʿāfā wa-as-saqīmu sawā

The healthy and the sick are not alike;

فَاخْلَعِ الْكَوْنَيْنِ عَنْكَ سِوَى

Fākhlaʿi al-kawnayni ʿanka siwā

So cast aside both worlds, save for

حُبِّ مَوْلَى الْعُرْبِ وَالْعَجَمِ

Ḥubbi mawlā al-ʿurbi wa-al-ʿajami

The love of the Master of Arabs and non-Arabs alike.

سَيِّدُ السَّادَاتِ مِنْ مُضَرٍ

Sayyidu as-sādāti min muḍarin

The Master of masters from the tribe of Mudar,

غَوْثُ أَهْلِ الْبَدْوِ وَالْحَضَرِ

Ghawthu ahli al-badwi wa-al-ḥaḍari

The succor of both the Bedouin and the city-dweller,

صَاحِبُ الْآيَاتِ وَالسُّوَرِ

Ṣāḥibu al-ʾāyāti wa-as-suwari

Bearer of the Divine Signs and Surahs,

مَنْبَعُ الْأَحْكَامِ وَالْحِكَمِ

Manbaʿu al-ʾaḥkāmi wa-al-ḥikami

The fountainhead of rulings and wisdom.

قَمَرٌ طَابَتْ سَرِيرَتُهُ

Qamarun ṭābat sarīratuhu

A moon whose inner self was pure,

وَسَجَايَاهُ وَسِيرَتُهُ

Wasajāyāhu wasīratuhu

As were his traits and his way of life;

صَفْوَةُ الْبَارِي وَخِيرَتُهُ

Ṣafwatu al-bārī wakhīratuhu

The Creator’s chosen and elect,

عَدْلُ أَهْلِ الْحِلِّ وَالْحَرَمِ

ʿadlu ahli al-ḥilli wa-al-ḥarami

The embodiment of justice for the people of the Sacred and the profane lands.

مَا رَأَتْ عَيْنٌ وَلَيْسَ تَرَى

Mā raʾat ʿaynun walaysa tarā

No eye has seen, nor shall it ever see,

مِثْلَ طَهَ فِي الْوَرَى بَشَرَا

Mithla ṭaha fī al-warā basharā

A human being like Taha among mankind;

خَيْرُ مَنْ فَوْقَ الثَّرَى أَثَرَا

Khayru man fawqa ath-tharā atharā

The best to ever walk upon the earth,

طَاهِرُ الْأَخْلَاقِ وَالشِّيَمِ

Ṭāhiru al-ʾakhlāqi wa-ash-shiyami

Pure in character and noble in nature.

جَاوَزَ السَّبْعَ الطِّبَاقَ إِلَى

Jāwaza as-sabʿa aṭ-ṭibāqa ilā

He transcended the seven heavens, ascending

قَابِ قَوْسَيْنِ اسْتَمَرَّ عُلَا

Qābi qawsayni stamarra ʿulā

To the distance of "two bows' length" and beyond;

وَأَحَالَتْهُ الْخُطُوطُ عَلَى

Waʾaḥaālathu al-khuṭūṭu ʿalā

And his journey led him to

سِرِّ عِلْمِ اللَّوْحِ وَالْقَلَمِ

Sirri ʿilmi al-lawḥi wa-al-qalami

The secret knowledge of the Preserved Tablet and the Pen.

نَالَ عِنْدَ اللهِ مَا مَوْهِبَةً

Naāla ʿinda Allāhi mā mawhibatan

A gift...

لِعَظِيمِ الْفَضْلِ مُوجِبَةً

Liʿaẓīmi al-faḍli mūjibatan

...warranting immense grace.

يَا أَعَزَّ النَّاسِ مَرْتَبَةً

Yā aʿazza an-nāsi martabatan

O you of the highest rank among people,

عُدْ بِفَضْلِ الْجُودِ وَالْكَرَمِ

ʿud bifaḍli al-jūdi wa-al-karami

Bestow your generous bounty and nobility;

عُدْ بِفَضْلِ الْجُودِ مِنْكَ عَلَى

ʿud bifaḍli al-jūdi minka ʿalā

Bestow your generous bounty upon

صَاحِبِ النِّيَابَتَيْنِ فَلَا

Ṣāḥibi an-niyābatayni falā

The holder of the dual deputyship, so that

يَعْتَرِي عَبْدَ الرَّحِيمِ بَلَا

Yaʿtarī ʿabda ar-raḥīmi balā

No affliction may befall ‘Abd al-Raḥīm,

وَارْعَ حَقَّ الصَّحْبِ وَالرَّحِمِ

Wārʿa ḥaqqa aṣ-ṣaḥbi wa-ar-raḥimi

And honor the bonds of companionship and kinship.

قُلْ لَهُمْ أَنْتُمْ مِنَ السُّعَدَا

Qul lahum antum mina as-suʿadā

Tell them: "You are among the blessed,"

وَاشْمَلِ الْأَدْنَيْنَ وَالْبُعَدَا

Wāshmali al-ʾadnayna wa-al-buʿadā

And extend your care to both near and far;

وَإِذَا كُنْتَ الشَّفِيعَ غَدَا

Waʾidhā kunta ash-shafīʿa ghadā

And when, on the morrow, you act as intercessor

لِلْوَرَى فَالْقَاسِمِيُّ سَمِي

Lilwarā fa-al-qāsimiyyu samī

For mankind, remember Al-Qāsimī—your namesake—

أَنْتَ عَبْدُ اللهِ ذُو الشَّرَفِ

Anta ʿabdu Allāhi dhū ash-sharafi

For you are ‘Abd Allāh, the honorable,

وَهْوَ عَبْدُ اللهِ ذُو السَّرَفِ

Wahwa ʿabdu Allāhi dhū as-sarafi

While he is ‘Abd Allāh, who has transgressed;

صَدَّهُ عَنْ مَذْهَبِ السَّلَفِ

Ṣaddahu ʿan madhhabi as-salafi

Diverted from the path of the Pious Predecessors

كَثْرَةُ الْعِصْيَانِ وَاللَّمَمِ

Kathratu al-ʿiṣyāni wa-al-lamami

By a multitude of sins and minor transgressions.

صَارَ بِالْأَوْزَارِ مُرْتَهَنًا

Ṣāra bi-al-ʾawzāri murtahananā

He has become held captive by his burdens,

ظَالِمًا لِلنَّفْسِ مُمْتَهِنًا

Ẓaālimanā lilnnafsi mumtahinanā

Wronging his own soul and debasing himself,

لِذُنُوبٍ كَالْجِبَالِ جَنَى

Lidhunūbin ka-al-jibaāli janā

Having committed sins as vast as mountains—

هَتْكِ أَعْرَاضٍ وَسَفْكِ دَمِ

Hatki aʿrāḍin wasafki dami

Violating honor and shedding blood.

ضَاقَ عَنْهُ وَجْهُ مَذْهَبِهِ

Ḍāqa ʿanhu wajhu madhhabihi

The way out has narrowed for him... ...his path

عَزَّ عَنْهُ نَيْلُ مَطْلَبِهِ

ʿazza ʿanhu naylu maṭlabihi

Attaining what is sought from him is beyond reach

قُمْ غَدَاةَ الْحَشْرِ بِي وَبِهِ

Qum ghadāta al-ḥashri bī wabihi

Stand with me and with him on the morning of the Gathering

يَوْمَ جَمْعِ الْخَصْمِ وَالْحَكَمِ

Yawma jamʿi al-khaṣmi wa-al-ḥakami

The day when the adversary and the Judge meet

لَمْ يَخِبْ مَنْ كُنْتَ مَوْئِلَهُ

Lam yakhib man kunta mawʾilahu

He who takes you as his refuge shall not be disappointed

يَا مَنِ الرَّحْمٰنُ فَضَّلَهُ

Yā mani ar-raḥmānu faḍḍalahu

O you whom the Most Merciful has favored

مَا عَلَى الْجَانِي وَأَنْتَ لَهُ

Mā ʿalā al-jānī waʾanta lahu

No harm befalls the offender when you are for him

عِصْمَةٌ مِنْ أَوْثَقِ الْعِصَمِ

ʿiṣmatun min awthaqi al-ʿiṣami

A safeguard—among the most secure of safeguards

بِكَ مُزْنُ الْجُودِ مَاطِرَةٌ

Bika muznu al-jūdi māṭiratun

Through you, the rain-clouds of generosity pour down

وَبِحَارُ الْخَيْرِ زَاخِرَةٌ

Wabiḥāru al-khayri zākhiratun

And the seas of goodness surge in abundance

فَجَمِيعُ الرُّسْلِ قَاصِرَةٌ

Fajamīʿu ar-rusli qāṣiratun

Thus, all the Messengers fall short

عَنْ مَسَاعِي ظَاهِرِ الْقَدَمِ

ʿan masāʿī ẓāhiri al-qadami

Of the endeavors of your noble footsteps

وَصَلَاةُ اللهِ كُلَّ ضُحَى

Waṣalātu Allāhi kulla ḍuḥā

May God’s blessings, every forenoon

وَسَلَامُ اللهِ مَا بَرِحَا

Wasalāmu Allāhi mā bariḥā

And God’s peace, unceasingly

جَاوَزَا خَتْمًا وَمُفْتَتَحَا

Jāwazā khatmanā wamuftataḥā

Encompass the beginning and the end

حَيْثُ كُنْتُمْ خَيْرَ فِي الْقِدَمِ

Ḥaythu kuntum khayra fī al-qidami

For you were the best since time immemorial

الْمُصَفَّى سَيِّدُ الشُّرَفَا

Al-muṣaffā sayyidu ash-shurafā

The Pure One, Master of the noble

ذُو الْوَفَا أَعْلَى الْوَرَى شَرَفَا

Dhū al-wafā aʿlā al-warā sharafā

The Faithful, highest of creation in honor

أَحْمَدُ الْمُخْتَارُ وَالْخُلَفَا

Aḥmadu al-mukhtāru wa-al-khulafā

Ahmad the Chosen, and the Successors

شُهَدَاءُ اللهِ فِي الْأُمَمِ

Shuhadāʾu Allāhi fī al-ʾumami

God’s witnesses among the nations
