Shaykh Abdur Rahim al-Bura’i
الشيخ عبد الرحيم البرعي
‘Abd ar-Raḥīm al-Bura‘ī (d. 803 AH / 1400 CE) was a distinguished Yemeni Sufi scholar, jurist, and master poet who lived during the Mamluk era. Hailing from the rugged Bura' region of Yemen, he dedicated his life to spiritual devotion and Islamic scholarship, ultimately becoming one of the most celebrated figures in the tradition of Madih nabawi (prophetic praise poetry). His collected works (Diwan al-Bura'i) are deeply revered throughout the Muslim world for their emotional sincerity, Sufi mysticism, and profound expressions of love for the Prophet Muhammad. He passed away in Makkah, leaving behind an enduring legacy of sacred music and poetry—most notably his masterpiece Ya Imam ar-Rusli—which continues to be chanted in devotional gatherings to this day.
