يَا جِيرَةَ الحَيِّ مِنْ زَرُودْ

يَا جِيرَةَ الحَيِّ مِنْ زَرُودْيَا بَهْجَةَ المَسَامِرْ

Yā jīrata al-ḥayyi min zarūd, Yā bahjata al-masāmir

O neighbours of the encampment at Zarud, O delight of the night conversations,

مَتَى مَتَى سَفْرُكُمْ يَعُودْيَا نُزْهَةَ الخَوَاطِرْ

Matā matā safrukum yaʿūd, Yā nuzhata al-khawāṭir

When, when will your travellers return, O joy of the mind?

غَزَالُكُمْ ذَلِكَ الشَّرُودْرُوحِي عَلَيْهِ طَائِرْ

Ghazālukum dhalika ash-sharūd, Rūḥī ʿalayhi ṭāʾir

Your gazelle, that shy runaway, my spirit flies after him,

وَالعَيْنُ مِنْ فَقْدِهْ تَجُودْبِالدَّمْعِ كَالمَوَاطِرْ

Wa-al-ʿaynu min faqdih tajūd, Bi-ad-damʿi ka-al-mawāṭir

And my eye, at his loss, pours forth tears like the rains.

قُولُوا لَهُ يَجْبُرُ الكَسِيرْوَيَرْحَمُ المُتَيَّمْ

Qūlū lahu yajburu al-kasīr, Wayarḥamu al-mutayyam

Tell him to mend the broken one and have mercy on the enthralled,

وَيَتَّقِي الخَالِقَ القَدِيرْالمَالِكَ المُعَظَّمْ

Wayattaqī al-khāliqa al-qadīr, Al-mālika al-muʿaẓẓam

And to fear the Powerful Creator, the Sovereign, the Revered,

الوَاحِدَ العَالِمَ الخَبِيرْلِلرَّاحِمِينَ يَرْحَمْ

Al-wāḥida al-ʿālima al-khabīr, Lilrrāḥimīna yarḥam

The One, the All-Knowing, the All-Aware, who has mercy on the merciful.

سُبْحَانَهُ وَاجِبُ الوُجُودْمُدَوِّرُ الدَّوَائِرْ

Subḥānahu wājibu al-wujūd, Mudawwiru ad-dawāʾir

Glory be to Him, the Necessary Being, who turns the circles of fate.

يَا قَلْبُ إِنَّ الهَوَى هَوَانْفَاتْرُكْ هَوَى الغَوَانِي

Yā qalbu inna al-hawā hawān, Fatruk hawā al-ghawānī

O heart, love is humiliation; so leave the love of beauties,

وَاقْنَعْ لَكَ الخَيْرُ بِالعِيَانْفِي كُلِّ مَا تُعَانِي

Waqnaʿ laka al-khayru bi-al-ʿiyān, Fī kulli mā tuʿānī

And be content, may good be yours, with what you see in all that you endure,

وَاطْلُبْ عِوَضْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ فَانْالعِينَ فِي الجِنَانِ

Waṭlub ʿiwaḍ kulli shayʾin fan, Al-ʿīna fī al-jināni

And seek, in place of every passing thing, the wide-eyed maidens in the Gardens,

دَارِ البَقَا جَنَّةِ الخُلُودْطَابَتْ لِكُلِّ صَابِرْ

Dāri al-baqā jannati al-khulūd, Ṭābat likulli ṣābir

The abode of permanence, the Garden of Eternity, made sweet for every patient one.
