So grace us with Your turning toward us, be ours, and set our minds at rest.

Yārabbi yārabba al-ʾarbāb, ʿabduk faqīruk ʿalā al-bāb

O Lord, O Lord of lords, Your servant, Your poor one, is at the door;

Atā waqad batta al-ʾasbāb, Mustadrikan baʿda mā māl

He has come, having cut off all means, seeking to make amends after he strayed.

Yā wāsiʿa al-jūdi jūdak, Al-khayru khayruk waʿindak

O You of vast generosity, Your generosity! All good is Your good, and with You

Yā mūjida al-khalqi ṭurran, Wamūsiʿa al-kulli birran

Asʾaluka isbāla satran, ʿalā al-qabāʾiḥ wa-al-ākhṭāl

I ask You to let down a veil over the ugly deeds and the errors.

Yāman yarā sirra qalbī, Ḥasbī ṭṭilāʿuka ḥasbī

O You who see the secret of my heart, Your knowing suffices me, it suffices me;

Famḥu biʿafwika dhanbī, Waṣliḥ quṣūdī wa-al-ʾaʿmāl

So erase my sin with Your pardon, and set right my intentions and my deeds.

Rabbī ʿalayka ʿtimādī, Kamā ilayka stinādī

My Lord, upon You is my reliance, just as on You I lean,

Ṣidqan waʾaqṣā murādī, Riḍāʾuka ad-dāʾimu al-ḥāl

Truly; and my furthest desire is Your lasting good pleasure.

Yā rabbi yā rabbi innī, Asʾaluka al-ʿafwa ʿannī

O Lord, O Lord, I ask You for pardon for myself,

Walam yakhib fīka ẓannī, Yā mālika al-mulki yā wa-al-

And my good opinion of You has not been disappointed, O Owner of Sovereignty, O Protector.

Ashkū ilayka waʾabkī, Min shuʾmi ẓulmī waʾifkī

I complain to You and weep for the misfortune of my wrongdoing and my falsehood,

Wasūʾi fiʿlī watarkī, Washahwati al-qīli wa-al-qāl

My evil acts and omissions, and my appetite for idle talk,

Waḥubbi dunyā dhamīma, Min kulli khayrin ʿaqīma

And love of a blameworthy world, barren of all good,

Fīhā al-balāyā muqīma, Waḥashwuhā ʾāfāt washghāl

In which afflictions abide, and whose contents are blights and distractions.

Yā wayḥa nafsī al-ghawiyya, ʿani as-sabīli as-sawiyya

Alas for my errant self, strayed from the straight path!

Aḍḥat turawwij ʿalayyah, Waqaṣduhā al-jāhu wa-al-māl

It has taken to beguiling me, and its aim is status and wealth.

Yā rabbi qad ghalabatnī, Wabi-al-ʾamānī sabatnī

O Lord, it has overpowered me, captivated me with wishes,

Wafī al-ḥuẓūẓi kabatnī, Waqayyadatnī bi-al-ʾakbāl

Cast me down among pleasures, and bound me in fetters.

Qadi staʿantuka rabbī, ʿalā mudāwāti qalbī

I have sought Your help, my Lord, in healing my heart

Waḥalli ʿuqdati karbī, Fanẓur ilā al-ghammi yanjāl

And untying the knot of my distress; so look upon the grief, and it will clear.

Yā rabbi yā khayra kāfī, Aḥlil ʿalaynā al-ʿawāfī

O Lord, O best Sufficer, send down well-being upon us,

Falaysa shayʾ thamma khāfī, ʿalayka tafṣīl waʾijmāl

For nothing there is hidden from You, in detail or in sum.

Yā rabbi ʿabduk bibābik, Yakhshā alīma ʿadhābik

O Lord, Your servant is at Your door, fearing Your painful punishment,

Wayartajī lithawābik, Waghaythu raḥmatik haṭṭāl

And hoping for Your reward, and the rain of Your mercy pours.

Waqad atāka biʿudhrih, Wabiānkisārih wafaqrih

He has come to You with his excuse, his brokenness and his poverty;

Fahzim biyusrika ʿusrih, Bimaḥḍi jūdika wa-al-ʾifḍāl

So rout his hardship with Your ease, by sheer generosity and bounty.

Wamnun ʿalayhi bitawba, Taghsilhu min kulli ḥawba

Grace him with a repentance that washes him of every sin,

Waʿṣimhu min sharri awba, Likulli mā ʿanhu qad ḥāl

And protect him from the evil of returning to all he has turned away from.

Faʾanta mawlā al-mawālī, Al-munfarid bi-al-kamāli

For You are the Master of masters, alone in perfection,

Wabi-al-ʿulā wa-at-taʿālī, ʿalawta ʿan ḍarbi al-ʾamthāl

And by loftiness and exaltation You are above all comparisons.

Jūduk wafaḍluk wabirruk, Yurjā wabaṭshuk waqahruk

Your generosity, bounty and kindness are hoped for, and Your grip and Your might

Yukhshā wadhikruk washukruk, Lāzim waḥamduk wa-al-ʾijlāl

Are feared, and remembering You and thanking You is a duty, and praising and glorifying You.

Yā rabbi anta naṣīrī, Falaqqinī kulla khayrī

O Lord, You are my helper; so bring me all my good,

Wajʿal jinānak maṣīrī, Wakhtim bi-al-ʾiymāni al-ʾājāl

Make Your Gardens my destination, and seal our lives with faith.

Waṣalli fī kulli ḥāla, ʿalā muzīli aḍ-ḍalāla

And bless, in every state, the one who removed misguidance,

Man kallamathu al-ghazāla, Muḥammadi al-hādī ad-dāl

To whom the gazelle spoke, Muhammad, the guide who points the way.
