Saqatka Ghawadi as-Suhbi Rab'a al-Ahibba

Imam Abdallah Ibn Alawi Al-Haddad

Saqatka ghawādī as-suḥbi rabʿa al-ʾaḥibbati, Fakam bika min khawdin wakam min kharīdati

May the morning clouds water you, O dwelling of the beloveds! How many a graceful maiden, how many a shy virgin you have held,

Wahayfāʾa mithli al-ghuṣni rannaḥahu aṣ-ṣabā, Waghurratuhā ka-al-badri taḥta ad-dujunnati

And many a slender one, like a branch swayed by the east wind, whose bright face is like the full moon beneath the darkness,

Wathaghrun bihi durrun wajīdun mumassakun, Waṣadrun bihi min luʾluʾin kullu durrati

With a mouth of pearls and a musk-scented neck, and a breast adorned with every pearl,

Waghāniyatin bi-al-ḥusni tuḥsabu annahā, Mina al-qāṣirāti as-sākināti bijannati

And a beauty whose loveliness makes one think her one of the maidens of modest gaze who dwell in Paradise.

Sabatnī biʾakhlāqin wakhalqin mubārakin, Laṭīfin kaʾanfāsi as-suḥayri az-zakiyyati

She captivated me with blessed character and form, gentle as the pure breaths of early dawn.

Ghurītu bihā wa-al-ḥamdu lillāhi waḥdahu, ʿalā kulli iḥsānin ʿalayya waniʿmati

I was enamoured of her; and praise be to Allah alone for every kindness and every blessing upon me.

Wanasʾaluhu at-tawfīqa wa-al-ʿafwa wa-ar-riḍā, Waʾan yatawaffānā ʿalā khayri millati

We ask Him for success, pardon and good pleasure, and that He take us in death upon the best of faiths,

ʿalā millati al-ʾislāmi dīni muḥammadin, Nabiyyi al-hudā al-mukhtāri khatmi an-nubuwwati

Upon the faith of Islam, the religion of Muhammad, Prophet of guidance, the Chosen, the Seal of prophethood.

ʿalayhi ṣalātu Allāhi mā habbati aṣ-ṣabā, Wamā gharradat wurqun ʿalā ghuṣni dawḥati

Upon him be the blessings of Allah as long as the east wind blows, and grey doves sing upon the branch of a great tree.
