Nasim Hajir Ya Nasim Hajir
Imam Abdallah Ibn Alawi Al-Haddad
Nasīm ḥājir yā nasīm ḥājir, Hal min khabar tushfā bihi al-khawāṭir
O breeze of Hajir, O breeze of Hajir, is there any news to heal our minds
ʿan jīrati al-ḥayyi al-ladhī tujāwir, Fa-ash-shawqu qad arbā ʿalā as-sarāʾir
Of the neighbours of the encampment beside whom you dwell? For longing has overwhelmed our inmost hearts.
Wāfayta rabʿī yā nasīma al-ʾasḥār, Min baʿdimā nāmat ʿuyūnu al-ʾaghyār
You came to my dwelling, O breeze of the early dawn, after the eyes of the strangers had gone to sleep.
ʿasā maʿak lī yā nasīm akhbār, ʿani al-ḥabībi an-nāziḥi al-muhājir
Perhaps you bring me news, O breeze, of the beloved who has gone far away.
Ḥubbu al-ʾaḥibbah fī al-fuʾād khayyam, Lā bal jarā minnī majāriya ad-dam
Love of the beloveds has pitched its tent in my heart; indeed, it runs through me as my blood runs.
Wakullamā barqu al-ḥimā tabassam, Fāḍat dumūʿu al-ʿayn fī al-maḥājir
And whenever the lightning of the sanctuary smiles, tears overflow from the sockets of my eyes.
Maḍā zamānī fī al-jafā wadahrī, Wamadmaʿī qad khānanī waṣabrī
My time and my life have passed in estrangement, and my tears and my patience have betrayed me.
Waḍāqa bi-al-furqah fasīḥu ṣadrī, Mā ḥīlatī kam shā akūn ṣābir
My wide breast has grown narrow with parting; what can I do? How long must I be patient?
ʿasā ʿasā yā sākinīn naʿmān, An yanthanī ḥālu aṣ-ṣafā al-ladhī kan
Perhaps, perhaps, O dwellers of Na'man, the state of purity that once was will return,
Wayankashif ḥālu al-ʾasā wa-al-ʾashjān, Biwaṣli laylā bahjati al-masāmir
And the state of grief and sorrow be lifted by union with Layla, the delight of night conversations.
Anā al-ladhī fī ḥubbihā mutayyam, Maḥzūn mashjūnu al-fuʾād mughram
I am the one enthralled in love of her, sorrowful, grieving of heart, enamoured.
Fahal tarāhā yā nadīm taʿlam, Bimā biqalbī min hawan mukhāmir
Do you think, O companion, that she knows the passion that fills my heart?
Yā sākinīna as-safḥi min fuʾādī, Wādī an-naqā yā khayra kulli wādī
O dwellers of the hillside of my heart, the valley of al-Naqa, O best of every valley,
Ḥaythu al-munādā yasmaʿu al-munādī, Yā ahla al-baṣāʾir ḥaddiqū al-baṣāʾir
Where the one called hears the one who calls: O people of insight, sharpen your insight!
Hadhā jamālu al-ḥaqqi qad tajallā, Walam yakun maḥjūb qablu kallā
This is the beauty of the Real, made manifest, and it was never veiled before, no, never;
Lakinna qalba al-ʿabdi ḥīna yujlā, Shāhad wakānat minnuhu as-sawātir
But when the servant's heart is polished, he witnesses, and the veils were from himself.
Ṭūru at-tajallī qalbu kulli ʿārif, Wamahbiṭu al-ʾasrār wa-al-laṭāʾif
The mount of manifestation is the heart of every gnostic, the place where secrets and subtleties descend.
Wa-an-nafsu mūsā tashhadu al-maʿārif, Mahmā tajallat wanbati aẓ-ẓawāhir
And the self is Moses, witnessing divine knowledge whenever He manifests and the outward forms are cut away.
Wa-an-nafsu mighnāṭīs amri al-ʾilhām, Wa-ar-rūḥu mighnāṭīs kawni al-ʾajsām
The self is a magnet for the command of inspiration, and the spirit is a magnet for the being of bodies,
Wadhāk min baʿdi at-tawajjuhi at-tām, Bikulli bāṭin wabikulli ẓāhir
And that comes after complete turning toward Him, with everything inward and everything outward.
Allāhu akbar hadhihi al-ḥaqīqah, Qad ashraqat min mashriqi aṭ-ṭarīqah
Allah is Greatest! This is the Reality, which has dawned from the east of the Path.
Famsik akhī bi-al-ʿurwati al-wathīqah, Wahya ttibāʿuk sayyida al-ʿashāʾir
So hold fast, my brother, to the firmest handhold, which is following the master of all the tribes,
Muḥammada al-mabʿūth bi-al-hidāyah, Wa-al-ḥaqqi wa-at-taḥqīqi wa-al-wilāyah
Muhammad, sent with guidance, truth, realisation and sainthood,
Insāna ʿayni al-kashfi wa-al-ʿināyah, Warūḥa maʿnā jumlati al-maẓāhir
The pupil of the eye of unveiling and divine care, the spirit of the meaning of all manifestations.
