Khudh Ma Safa Wada'i al-Kadar

Imam Abdallah Ibn Alawi Al-Haddad

Khudh mā ṣafā wadaʿi al-kadar, Wakili al-ʾumūra ilā al-qadar

Take what is pure and leave what is turbid, and entrust all matters to destiny,

Mahmā ghulibta kamā amar, Hādī al-warā khayru al-bashar

Whenever you are overcome, as commanded by the guide of mankind, the best of humanity.

Inna al-ʾumūra jarā bihā, Qalamun ʿalā al-lawḥi al-ʾagharr

All matters have been written by a Pen upon the radiant Tablet,

Fī sābiqi al-ʿilmi al-qadīm, Min qabli ījādi aṣ-ṣuwar

In the eternal foreknowledge, before forms were brought into being.

Wadaʿi al-humūma faʾinnahā, Yā ṣāḥibī maḥḍu aḍ-ḍarar

Leave worries, for they are, my friend, sheer harm.

Waghnam zamānaka wastariḥ, Min law walim talqa aẓ-ẓafar

Make the most of your time and rest from "if only" and "why", and you will find success.

Warjiʿ ilā Allāhi idhā, Mā lajja khaṭbun aw ʿasar

Return to Allah whenever a calamity persists or hardship comes.

Waʾidhā bulīta bimiḥnatin, Faṣbir lahā fīman ṣabar

If you are tried with an affliction, be patient in it among those who are patient,

Min kulli barrin mūqinin, Mutawaqqirin ʿinda al-ghiyar

Every righteous soul who has certainty, dignified in the face of change.

Waʾidhā khuṣiṣta biniʿmatin, Fashkur maʿa man qad shakar

And if you are singled out for a blessing, give thanks along with those who give thanks

Lillāhi rabbi al-ʿālamīn, Tuʿṭa al-mazīda kamā dhakar

To Allah, Lord of the worlds, and you will be given more, as He has said.

Waʿmal linafsika ṣāliḥan, Tanjū bihi min kulli sharr

Do righteous deeds for yourself by which you will be saved from every evil,

Watafūzu bi-al-ḥusnā wabi-al-, Jannāti dāri al-mustaqarr

And win the best reward and the Gardens of the lasting abode,

Dāri al-baqā dāri an-naʿīm, Dāri al-karāmati wa-an-naẓar

The abode of permanence, the abode of bliss, the abode of honour and of beholding.

Waʾaʿidda zādaka lilmaʿād, Min qabli yafjāka al-ḥadhar

Prepare your provision for the Return before what you fear takes you by surprise.

Fa-al-mawtu ʾātin ʿan qarīb, Walaʿalla yawmaka qad ḥaḍar

For death is coming soon, and perhaps your day has already come.

Yā rabbi anta al-mubtaghā, Wa-al-murtajā wa-al-muddakhar

O Lord, You are the One sought, the One hoped for and the treasure laid up.

Yā rabbanā fastur wasā, Miḥ anta akramu man satar

Our Lord, cover and forgive; You are the most generous of those who cover.

Yā rabbanā wanẓur ilay, Nā anta aḥsanu man naẓar

Our Lord, look upon us, for You are the best of those who look.

Yā rabbanā wakhtim lanā, Bi-al-khayri in ḥāna as-safar

Our Lord, seal our lives with good when the time of the journey comes.

Thumma aṣ-ṣalātu ʿalā ar-rasūl, Khayri al-bariyyati min muḍar

Then blessings be upon the Messenger, the best of creation, of Mudar,

Khatmi an-nabiyyīna al-kirām, Niʿma al-maṣābīḥu al-ghurar

Seal of the noble prophets, what excellent radiant lamps!

Waʾālihi waʾaṣḥābihi, Wa-at-tābiʿīna ʿalā al-ʾathar

And upon his family and his Companions, and those who follow in their footsteps,

Mā habbati an-nasamātu bi-al-, ʿarfi al-muʿanbari fī as-saḥar

As long as the breezes blow with ambergris-scented fragrance before dawn,

Aw gharradat wurqu al-ḥimā, Fawqa al-ghuṣūni mina ash-shajar

Or the grey doves of the sanctuary sing upon the branches of the trees.
