Hada Allah Ma'shuqa al-Jamali Ila al-Huda

Imam Abdallah Ibn Alawi Al-Haddad

Hadā Allāhu maʿshūqa al-jamāli ilā al-hudā, Wajannabahu mā yakhtashīhi mina ar-radā

May Allah guide the beloved of beauty to right guidance, and keep away from her the ruin she fears,

Wanafsa ḥasūdin askhana Allāhu ʿaynahu, Waʾasharahu ḥattā yabīta musahhadā

And as for the envious soul, may Allah make his eye weep hot tears, and keep him awake until he spends the night sleepless.

Walā bariḥat tuhdī lanā ẓabyatu al-ḥimā, Mina al-miski wa-al-kāfūri fī ghaflati al-ʿidā

May the gazelle of the sanctuary never cease to send us musk and camphor, while the enemies are unaware.

Uḥibbu lahā dammūna wa-an-najda wa-ar-rubā, Wakhaylata wa-ash-shiʿba al-ladhī nūruhu badā

For her sake I love Dammun, the uplands and the hills, khayla and the ravine whose light has shone forth.

Muḥajjabatun min hāshimin wamuḥammadin, ʿalayhi ṣalātu Allāhi daʾban wasarmadā

A veiled one of Hashim and of Muhammad, upon whom be the blessings of Allah constantly and eternally.

Falā taʿdhulūnī fī al-malīḥati waʿdhurū, Faqalbī bihā yumsī ʿalayhā kamā ghadā

So do not blame me for the lovely one, but excuse me, for my heart is hers by evening as it was by morning.

Fayā ayyuhā al-ʿudhdhālu rifqan waraḥmatan, Biṣabbin kaʾībin ʿayshuhu qad tanakkadā

O you who blame me, be gentle and merciful with a sorrowful lover whose life has grown bitter.

Walā tatawahham ẓabyatu al-ḥayyi annanī, Ṣabawtu maʿādha Allāhi wa-al-ḥādu qad ḥadā

And let the gazelle of the encampment not imagine that I have strayed to another, Allah forbid, now the camel-driver has sung

Wasāqa niyāqa ash-shawqi yaqṣidu maʿhadan, Bihi nazala al-ʾaqwāmu fī rawḍati an-nadā

And driven the camels of longing toward a familiar place where the folk have alighted in the garden of generosity,

Biʿaydīda ḥayya Allāhu ʿaydīda kullahu, Bisāriyatin kamā sharā al-barqu arʿadā

At 'Idid; may Allah greet all of 'Idid with night rain, as the lightning flashes and the thunder roars,

Wajāza ar-riyāḍa al-khuḍra min wādī an-naqā, Bizanbala min bashshāra mā qumriyyun shadā

And may it pass over the green meadows of the valley of al-Naqa, at Zanbal by Bashshar, as long as a turtle-dove sings,

Waʿamma al-furayṭa an-nūru maʿ ahli bakdarin, Hawāṭilu ghufrānin maʿa al-ʾamni min radā

And may light cover al-Furayt along with the people of Bakdar, with downpours of forgiveness and safety from ruin.

Fakam ḍimna hātīka al-maqābiri ʿārifun, Waḥabrun bihi fī ẓulmati al-jahli yuhtadā

How many a gnostic lies within those graves, and many a scholar by whom one is guided in the darkness of ignorance!

Biʿaydīda ʿādat kullu ʿīdin anīsatin, Maʿa al-jīrati al-ghādīna min maʿshari al-hudā

At 'Idid every festival has returned, full of intimacy, with the neighbours who set out from the company of guidance,

Aʾimmati dīni Allāhi yadʿūna khalqahu, Ilā bābihi ṭūbā liman samiʿa an-nidā

Imams of the religion of Allah, calling His creation to His door: blessed is whoever hears the call,

Wasāra ilā ar-rabbi al-ʿaẓīmi mubādiran, Liṭāʿatihi yarjū an-naʿīma al-mukhalladā

And travels to the Mighty Lord, hastening to obey Him, hoping for everlasting bliss,

Wayakhshā ʿadhāba Allāhi fī nārihi al-latī, Yukhalladu fīhā man ṭaghā watamarradā

And fears the punishment of Allah in His Fire, in which whoever transgresses and rebels abides forever,

Walam yattabiʿ khayra al-ʾanāmi muḥammadan, Nabiyya al-hudā baḥra an-nadā mujliya aṣ-ṣadā

And who did not follow the best of mankind, Muhammad, Prophet of guidance, ocean of generosity, who polishes away the rust.

ʿalayhi ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu, Ṣalātan wataslīman ilā ʾākhiri al-madā

Upon him be the blessings of Allah and His peace, blessings and peace until the end of time.
