Buruqu al-Hima Waqta as-Suhayri Taluh

Imam Abdallah Ibn Alawi Al-Haddad

Burūqu al-ḥimā waqta as-suḥayri talūḥu, Wataghdū nusaymātu aṣ-ṣabā watarūḥu

The lightning of the sanctuary gleams before dawn, and the little breezes of the east wind come and go,

Fatudhkirunī najdan saqā Allāhu sūḥahā, Muliththan biʾaknāfi ar-riyāḍi tasīḥu

Reminding me of Najd; may Allah water its courtyards with lasting rain that flows across the edges of its meadows,

Waʾanbatahā zarʿan waʿushban wamuzhiran, Biʾazhārihā rīḥu al-janūbi tafūḥu

And make them grow with crops, grass and blossoms, whose flowers the south wind spreads abroad.

Marābiʿu aḥbābin lanā shaṭṭa dāruhum, Waqalla mazārun wa-al-widādu ṣaḥīḥu

The haunts of beloveds of ours whose home is far, and visits are few, though the love is true.

Humu yasʾalū ʿannā wanasʾalu ʿanhumu, Wanarjū wiṣālan wa-az-zamānu shaḥīḥu

They ask about us and we ask about them, and we hope for union, while time is miserly.

Wanabkī ʿalayhim an wayabkūna mithlanā, Bidamʿin biʾarjāʾi al-khudūdi safūḥu

We weep for them, and they weep as we do, with tears that pour down the cheeks.

ʿasā Allāhu narjū Allāha yajmaʿu shamlanā, Wakullun likullin wāddun wanaṣīḥu

Perhaps Allah (we hope in Allah) will reunite us, each loving and sincere toward the other.

Waʾinnā wahum taḥta al-muqaddari wa-al-qaḍā, Wamīzānu man yarḍā al-qaḍāʾa rajīḥu

We and they are beneath destiny and decree, and the scale of whoever accepts decree is heavy.

Waʾinnā waʾiyyāhum waʾin ṭāla ʿahdunā, Biqurbin waʾunsin wanḥasamna qurūḥu

We and they, however long our time of nearness and intimacy, and though our wounds have healed,

Lafī dāri dunyā qad aḥāṭa bihā al-fanā, Waman lam yakun yaghdū fasawfa yarūḥu

Are in an abode of this world surrounded by perishing; whoever does not depart in the morning will depart in the evening.

Faghāyatunā mawtun waqabrun wabarzakhun, Wabaʿthun ilā ar-rabbi ar-raḥīmi ṣarīḥu

Our end is death, the grave and the barzakh, and a clear resurrection before the Merciful Lord.

Fanuḥsharu jamʿan lilḥisābi waliljazāʾ, Wanarjū samāḥan wa-al-karīmu samūḥu

We will be gathered together for reckoning and recompense, and we hope for leniency, for the Generous is lenient.

Fanasʾaluhu satran waʿafwan waraḥmatan, Waṣafḥan fakhayru ar-rāḥimīna ṣafūḥu

So we ask Him for veiling, pardon and mercy, and forgiveness, for the Best of the merciful is forgiving.

Fayudkhilunā al-jannāti faḍlan waminnatan, Wayunjī mina an-nīrāni wahya lafūḥu

He will admit us to the Gardens out of bounty and grace, and save us from the Fire, which scorches.

Wayashfaʿu fīnā aḥmadun sayyidu al-warā, Nabiyyu al-hudā fa-al-jāhu thamma fasīḥu

And Ahmad, master of creation, will intercede for us, the Prophet of guidance, whose rank there is vast.

ʿalayhi ṣalātu Allāhi thumma salāmuhu, Matā lāḥa barqun aw tanassama rīḥu

Upon him be the blessings of Allah and His peace whenever lightning flashes or a breeze blows.
