Bu Bakri Sir Fi Tariqi Allah Rabb

Imam Abdallah Ibn Alawi Al-Haddad

Bū bakri sir fī ṭarīqi Allāhi rabbi al-ʿibād, Al-wāḥidi al-mājidi al-fardi al-karīmi al-jawād

Abu Bakr, journey on the path of Allah, Lord of His servants, the One, the Glorious, the Unique, the Generous, the Bountiful.

Wazhad laka al-khayr fī dāri al-fanā wa-an-nafād, Dunyā daniyyah ḥaqīrah kulluhā al-ā nakād

Renounce, for your own good, the abode of passing away and running out, a low, contemptible world that is nothing but trouble.

Fīhā al-kadar wa-al-balāyā wa-al-miḥan fī zdiyād, Wakullu man ḥabba dunyā as-sūʾ mā luh rashād

In it impurity, trials and tribulations keep increasing, and whoever loves this evil world has no right guidance,

Walā baṣīrah walā rahbah liyawmi al-maʿād, Wakullu man yattaqī ar-raḥman yuʿṭā al-murād

No insight and no fear of the Day of Return; but whoever fears the Most Merciful is given his wish.

Yanjū mina ash-sharri fī ad-dunyā wayawma at-tanād, Man kāna zāduh mina at-taqwā ẓafir khayra zād

He is saved from evil in this world and on the Day of Calling; whoever takes piety as his provision has won the best provision.

Waman yuḥāfiẓ ʿalā farḍi aṣ-ṣalāti stafād, Waman yuḍayyiʿ ṣalātuh rāḥ fī sharri wad

Whoever keeps the obligatory prayer has profited, and whoever neglects his prayer goes to the worst of valleys.

Waman yuḥāfiẓ ʿalā rukni az-zakāti stajād, Waṣāra māluh muḥaṣṣan min jamīʿi al-fasād

Whoever keeps the pillar of zakat has done well, and his wealth is protected from all corruption.

Watlu al-qurāna kalāma ar-rabbi rāyiḥ waghād, Wafī ad-dayājī idhā al-ghāfil ghariq fī ar-ruqād

Recite the Qur'an, the speech of the Lord, morning and evening, and in the darkness, when the heedless are drowned in sleep.

Walāzimi adh-dhikri fahwa ar-ruknu wahwa al-ʿimād, Nūru as-sarāʾir warāḥu ar-rūḥ wansu al-fuʾād

Hold fast to remembrance, for it is the pillar and the support, light of the inmost self, wine of the spirit and intimacy of the heart.

Waqif ʿalā bab rabbak wastaghith bih wanād, Wadʿuh wasal minhu ḥusna al-ʿāqibah wa-as-sadād

Stand at your Lord's door, seek His help and call out; pray to Him and ask Him for a good end and right conduct,

Wa-al-khatma bi-al-khayr wa-at-tathbīt ʿinda al-ḥaṣād, Tammat waṣallū ʿalā aḥmad kullamā ghuṣn mād

For a seal of good and steadfastness at the harvest. It is complete; now send blessings on Ahmad whenever a branch sways,

Wamā sarā al-ghayth wasqā kulla ḥāḍir wabād, Wakulla rāfiʿ wanāzil wa-al-waṭā wa-al-wihād

And as long as the rain travels and waters every townsman and nomad, every height and every lowland, the plain and the hollows.

Bisirri ys fatlūhā waqūlū ʿuwād, ʿuwād yā raḥmata ar-rabbi al-karīmi al-jawād

By the secret of Yasin, recite it and say: "Return to us, return to us, O mercy of the Generous, Bountiful Lord!"

From the dīwān of Imam ʿAbdallāh ibn ʿAlawī al-Ḥaddād (d. 1132 AH / 1720 CE), al-Durr al-Manẓūm, printed edition Dār al-Ḥāwī, Beirut 1423/2002, pp. 176–178.
