Atfatan Ya Jirata al-Alam

Imam Abdallah Ibn Alawi Al-Haddad

Allāh Allāhu Allāh Allāhu Allāh Allāhu Allāh Allāhu, Allāh Allāhu Allāh Allāhu yā mujammil jammil aḥwālī

Allah, Allah, Allah, Allah, Allah, Allah, Allah, Allah, Allah, Allah, Allah, Allah: O Beautifier, beautify my states!

ʿaṭfatan yā jīrata al-ʿalami, Yā uhayla al-jūdi wa-al-karami

A kind turn, O neighbours of the landmark, O dear people of generosity and nobility!

Naḥnu jīrānun bidhā al-ḥarami, Ḥarami al-ʾiḥsāni wa-al-ḥasani

We are neighbours in this sanctuary, the sanctuary of kindness and beauty.

Naḥnu min qawmin bihi sakanū, Wabihi min khawfihim aminū

We are of a people who dwelt in it, and in it were safe from their fear,

Wabiʾāyāti al-qurāni ʿunū, Fattaʾid fīnā akhā al-wahani

And were devoted to the verses of the Qur'an; so go gently with us, O feeble one.

We know al-Batha' and it knows us, and al-Safa and the House are familiar with us.

Walanā al-muʿlā wakhayfu minā, Faʿlaman hadhā wakun wakuni

Ours are al-Ma'la and al-Khayf of Mina; so know this, and act accordingly.

Walanā khayru al-ʾanāmi abu, Waʿaliyyu al-murtaḍā ḥasabu

The best of mankind is our father, and 'Ali al-Murtada our noble descent,

Waʾilā as-sibṭayni nantasibu, Nasaban mā fīhi min dakhani

And to the two grandsons we trace our lineage, a lineage with no taint in it.

Kam imāmin baʿdahu khalafū, Minhu sādātun bidhā ʿurifū

How many imams succeeded him, masters descended from him, known for this,

Wabihadhā al-waṣfi qad wuṣifū, Min qadīmi ad-dahri wa-az-zamani

And described with this description from the most ancient of times!

Mithli zayni al-ʿābidīna ʿalī, Wabnihi al-bāqiri khayri walī

Like Zayn al-'Abidin 'Ali, and his son al-Baqir, the best of saints,

Wa-al-ʾimāmi aṣ-ṣādiqi al-ḥafili, Waʿaliyyin dhī al-ʿulā al-yaqini

And the imam al-Sadiq, rich in virtue, and 'Ali of lofty rank and certainty.

Fahumu al-qawmu al-ladhīna huduw, Wabifaḍli Allāhi qad saʿidū

They are the folk who were guided, and by Allah's grace became happy;

Walighayri Allāhi mā qaṣadū, Wamaʿa al-qurʾāni fī qarani

They aimed at none but Allah, and are joined with the Qur'an.

Ahlu bayti al-muṣṭafā aṭ-ṭuhri, Hum amānu al-ʾarḍi faddakiri

The people of the house of the pure Chosen One are the safety of the earth; so remember.

Shubbihū bi-al-ʾanjumi az-zuhri, Mithla mā qad jāʾa fī as-sunani

They were likened to the shining stars, as has come in the Sunna,

Wasafīnun lilnnajāti idhā, Khifta min ṭūfāni kulli adhā

And to ships of salvation when you fear the flood of every harm;

Fanju fīhā lā takūnu kadhā, Waʿtaṣim billāhi wastaʿini

So be saved in them, do not be otherwise, and hold fast to Allah and seek His help.

Rabbi fanfaʿnā bibarkatihim, Wahdinā al-ḥusnā biḥurmatihim

Lord, benefit us by their blessing, guide us to the best by their sanctity,

Waʾamitnā fī ṭarīqatihim, Wamuʿāfātin mina al-fitani

Let us die upon their path, and in safety from trials.

Thumma lā taghtarra bi-an-nasabi, Lā walā taqnaʿ bikāna abī

Then do not be deluded by lineage, and do not be content with "My father was...",

Wattabiʿ fī al-hadyi khayra nabī, Aḥmada al-hādī ilā as-sunani

But follow in guidance the best Prophet, Ahmad, the guide to the right ways.

Fahuwa khatmun lilnnabiyyīnā, Waʾimāmun lilmuṭīʿīnā

For he is the seal of the prophets, and the imam of the obedient,

Walisānun lilmujībīnā, Yawma nūdū khayra muʾtamani

And the spokesman for those who answered when they were called, the most trustworthy.

Ṣalawātu Allāhi dhī al-karami, Tataghashshā al-muṣṭafā al-ʿalami

May the blessings of Allah, the Generous, envelop the Chosen One, the banner,

Mā sarā rakbun ilā al-ḥarami, Waṣabā ṣabbun ilā sakani

As long as a caravan travels to the sanctuary, and a lover yearns for a beloved home,

Waʿalā ʾāli an-nabiyyi al-kuramā, Waʿalā aṣḥābihi al-ʿulamā

And upon the noble family of the Prophet, and upon his learned Companions,

Waʿalā atbāʿihi al-ḥukamā, Waʾūlī al-ʾalbābi wa-al-fiṭani

And upon his wise followers, people of understanding and insight.
