An-Nasu Fi Diqin wa-Fi Haraj

Imam Abdallah Ibn Alawi Al-Haddad

An-nāsu fī ḍīqin wafī ḥaraji, Yashkūna min kasrin wamin ʿaraji

People are in hardship and in straits, complaining of brokenness and lameness.

Yā rabbi yā raḥmanu yā dhā al-ʿulā, Al-ghawtha bi-al-fatḥi wabi-al-faraji

O Lord, O Most Merciful, O Exalted One, help us with an opening and with relief!

Yā rabbi yā mannānu yā rabbanā, Aṭ-ṭuf binā wahdi ilā an-nahaji

O Lord, O Bestower of favours, our Lord, be gentle with us and guide us to the clear path.

Yā rabbi yā ḥannānu yā dhukhranā, ʿāfi mina al-ʾikhlāli wa-al-ʿiwaji

O Lord, O Most Compassionate, O our treasure, spare us from disorder and crookedness.

Yā rabbi yā dayyānu yā kahfanā, Fī sāʿati al-ʾirjāfi wa-ar-rahaji

O Lord, O Judge, O our refuge in the hour of rumours and tumult,

Yā rabbi yā dhā al-ʿarshi wa-al-kibriyā, Wa-al-majdi ḥfaẓnā mina al-haraji

O Lord, Lord of the Throne, of grandeur and glory, protect us from chaos,

Wamin farīqin lā khalāqa lahum, Qad amʿanū fī al-khulfi wa-al-maraji

And from a faction who have no share of good, who have gone deep into discord and confusion.

Warubbamā rāmū biʾafwāhihim, An yulbisū al-ʾiṣbāḥa bi-ad-dalaji

They may even try, with their mouths, to clothe the bright morning in the darkness of night,

Wayatrukūnā ka-al-bahāʾimi wa-al-, Anʿāmi lā nuṣghī ilā al-ḥujaji

And leave us like beasts and cattle that pay no heed to proofs.

Never, by Allah's eternal life! They will not be able, nor will they manage it, nor will we turn aside.

Innā biḥabli Allāhi muʿtaṣimūna, Wasunnati al-mustakhlaṣi al-bahiji

We hold fast to the rope of Allah, and to the Sunna of the chosen, radiant one.

Nasʾaluka Allāhumma bi-al-muṣṭafā, Wabi-al-khalīli aṭ-ṭayyibi al-ʾariji

We ask You, O Allah, by the Chosen One, and by the Friend, the good, the fragrant,

Waṣāḥibi aṭ-ṭūri al-munājā bihi, Wa-ar-rūḥi wa-an-nājī ʿalā al-lujaji

And by the one of the Mount, with whom You conversed, and by the Spirit, and the one saved upon the deep waters,

Wabi-al-ʾabi al-ʾawwali ʾādamihā, Washīthin wa-al-marfūʿi fī ad-daraji

And by the first father, Adam, and Seth, and the one raised to a lofty place,

Wajumlati al-ʾamlāki wa-al-kutbi wa-ar-ru, Sli al-kirāmi wasāʾiri as-suruji

And all the angels, the books and the noble messengers, and all the other lamps,

Jibrīla mīkāʾīla wāwun warā, Waṣāḥibi al-lawḥi idhā yahiji

Gabriel, Michael, and after them the Keeper of the Tablet, when he is stirred

Bi-an-nafkhi wa-al-qābiḍi arwāḥanā, Min sākinin minhā wamunzaʿiji

To blow the Trumpet, and the one who takes our souls, whether they are at peace or in turmoil.

Yā rabbi tilka masāʾilun nuẓimat, Liʿabdi sūʾin bimanṭiqin lahiji

O Lord, these are petitions set in verse by a wretched servant with an eager tongue,

Jammi adh-dhunūbi kathīruhā qaʿadat, Bihi al-ʾamānī ʿan ʿulā al-faraji

Laden with sins, so many, whose wishes have kept him from the heights of relief.

Wa-al-qawmu qad taʿibū waqad karibū, Waqīla ʿanhum azmatu nfarijī

The people are weary and distressed, and it has been said for them: "O hardship, lift!"

Waqad aqarra al-jamīʿu waʿtarafū, Biʾannahum mukhṭiʾūna ka-al-hamaji

All have admitted and confessed that they are wrongdoers, like the rabble.

Faghfir wasāmiḥ waʿfu ʿannā faqad, Tubnā mina al-madhmūmi wa-as-samiji

So forgive, pardon and absolve us, for we have repented of all that is blameworthy and base.

Waʾanzili al-ghaytha waʾanbit lanā, Wanajji min ḥarrihā wamin wahaji

Send down the rain and make things grow for us, and save us from the heat and from the blaze,

Bisirri yāsīna shafīʿi al-warā, Waʾaḥmadi al-ḥāmidīna idh yaliji

By the secret of Yasin, intercessor for creation, Ahmad, most praising of all who praise, when he enters,

Nabiyyika al-hādī ar-rasūli ilā al-, Khalqi jamīʿan biʾawḍaḥi al-ḥujaji

Your Prophet, the guide, the Messenger to all creation with the clearest proofs.

ʿalayhi azkā aṣ-ṣalāti dāʾimatan, Takurru karra ash-shuhūri wa-al-ḥijaji

Upon him be the purest blessings, everlasting, returning as the months and the years return,

Wa-al-ʾāli wa-aṣ-ṣaḥbi mā hamā muzunun, Wasārati al-jāriyātu fī ath-thabaji

And upon his family and Companions, as long as the rain clouds pour, and ships sail through the midst of the sea.
