اللهُ لَا تَشْهَدْ سِوَاهُ وَلَا تَرَى

اللهُ لَا تَشْهَدْ سِوَاهُ وَلَا تَرَىإِلَّاهُ فِي مُلْكٍ وَفِي مَلَكُوتِ

Allāhu lā tashhad siwāhu walā tarā, Illāhu fī mulkin wafī malakūti

Allah: witness none but Him, and see none but Him, in the visible realm and in the unseen kingdom.

سُبْحَانَهُ سُبْحَانَهُ مِنْ مَاجِدٍمُتَفَرِّدٍ بِالعِزِّ وَالجَبَرُوتِ

Subḥānahu subḥānahu min mājidin, Mutafarridin bi-al-ʿizzi wa-al-jabarūti

Glory be to Him, glory be to Him, the Glorious, alone in might and in omnipotence!

مَنْ قَيَّدَاهُ قُصُورُهُ وَكَلَالُهُعَنْ أَنْ يَرَاهُ فَسِمْهُ بِالمَبْتُوتِ

Man qayyadāhu quṣūruhu wakalāluhu, ʿan an yarāhu fasimhu bi-al-mabtūti

Whoever is held back by his shortcomings and his weariness from seeing Him, count him as one cut off.

سَافِرْ إِلَيْهِ بِهِمَّةٍ عُلْوِيَّةٍحَتَّى تَرَاهُ وَقُلْ لِنَفْسِكَ مُوتِي

Sāfir ilayhi bihimmatin ʿulwiyyatin, Ḥattā tarāhu waqul linafsika mūtī

Journey to Him with lofty aspiration until you see Him, and say to your self: "Die!"

وَاقْبِلْ عَلَيْهِ بِكُلِّ قَلْبِكَ قَاصِداًمَحْوَ الظِّلَالِ أُشِيرُ لِلنَّاسُوتِ

Waqbil ʿalayhi bikulli qalbika qāṣidan, Maḥwa aẓ-ẓilāli ushīru lilnnāsūti

Turn to Him with all your heart, seeking the effacement of the shadows (I mean our human nature)

بِالشَّمْسِ شَمْسِ الذَّاتِ حَتَّى لَا تَرَىشَيْئاً سِوَى مُتَقَدِّسِ اللَّاهُوتِ

Bi-ash-shamsi shamsi adh-dhāti ḥattā lā tarā, Shayʾan siwā mutaqaddisi al-lāhūti

By the sun, the sun of the Essence, until you see nothing but the holy Divinity.

فَإِذَا انْتَهَيْتَ إِلَى الَّذِي عَرَّفْتُهُشَاهَدْتَ مِنْ عَرْشٍ إِلَى بَهَمُوتِ

Faʾidhā ntahayta ilā al-ladhī ʿarraftuhu, Shāhadta min ʿarshin ilā bahamūti

When you reach what I have made known to you, you will witness all things from the Throne down to Bahamut,

وَرَأَيْتَ سِرّاً لَمْ يُجِزْ إِفْشَاءَهُأَهْلُ الهُدَى وَالكَشْفِ وَالتَّثْبِيتِ

Waraʾayta sirran lam yujiz ifshāʾahu, Ahlu al-hudā wa-al-kashfi wa-at-tathbīti

And you will see a secret that the people of guidance, unveiling and steadfastness have not allowed to be divulged.

إِنَّا لَنَعْلَمُهُ وَلَمْ نَحْظَ بِهِذَوْقاً لِمَا مَعَنَا مِنَ التَّشْتِيتِ

Innā lanaʿlamuhu walam naḥẓa bihi, Dhawqan limā maʿanā mina at-tashtīti

We know of it, but we have not been granted it as a taste, because of the scattering within us.

وَالشَّوْقُ مِنَّا لَا يَزَالُ مُنَازِعاًوَالأَمْرُ بِالتَّقْدِيرِ وَالتَّوْقِيتِ

Wa-ash-shawqu minnā lā yazālu munāziʿan, Wa-al-ʾamru bi-at-taqdīri wa-at-tawqīti

Longing within us never ceases to contend, yet the matter rests on destiny and appointed times.

يَا لَيْتَنِي قَدْ غِبْتُ عَنْ هَذَا الوَرَىوَدُعِيتُ بِالمُسْتَغْرِقِ المَبْهُوتِ

Yā laytanī qad ghibtu ʿan hadhā al-warā, Waduʿītu bi-al-mustaghriqi al-mabhūti

Would that I had vanished from all creation and were called the one drowned and dumbfounded!

مَاذَا عَلَيَّ مِنَ الأَنَامِ وَقَوْلِهِمْإِنْ أُدْعَ بِالمَحْجُوبِ أَوِ المَمْقُوتِ

Mādhā ʿalayya mina al-ʾanāmi waqawlihim, In udʿa bi-al-maḥjūbi awi al-mamqūti

What does it matter to me what people say of me, if I am called veiled or detested?

حَسْبِي إِلَهِي وَالَّذِي يَخْتَارُهُاللهُ أَكْبَرُ غَارَ بَحْرُ الحُوتِ

Ḥasbī ilahī walladhī yakhtāruhu, Allāhu akbaru ghāra baḥru al-ḥūti

My God suffices me, and whatever He chooses; Allah is Greatest! The sea of the fish has sunk away.
