يَا رَبَّنَا يَا رَبَّنَا غِثْنَا بِقُرْبِ المُصْطَفَى

يَا اللهُ يَا اللهُ يَا اللهُبِحَقِّ طَهَ المُصْطَفَى يَا رَبَّنَا

Yā Allāhu yā Allāhu yā Allāhu, Biḥaqqi ṭaha al-muṣṭafā yā rabbanā

O Allah, O Allah, O Allah, by the right of Taha the Chosen One, O our Lord!

نَادَمْتُهُ عَلَى الصَّفَافَطَابَ عَيْشِي وَصَفَا

Nādamtuhu ʿalā aṣ-ṣafā, Faṭāba ʿayshī waṣafā

I sat with him in purity, and my life became sweet and pure.

وَكُنْتُ أَهْوَى قُرْبَهُوَوَصْلَهُ فَأَسْعَفَا

Wakuntu ahwā qurbahu, Wawaṣlahu faʾasʿafā

I longed for his nearness and his union, and he granted it.

وَلَيْسَ عِنْدِي حَالَةٌتُوحِشُنِي مِثْلُ الجَفَا

Walaysa ʿindī ḥālatun, Tūḥishunī mithlu al-jafā

I have no state that pains me like estrangement.

فَكُلُّ مَنْ عَنَّفَنِيفِي حُبِّهِ مَا أَنْصَفَا

Fakullu man ʿannafanī, Fī ḥubbihi mā anṣafā

Whoever rebuked me for loving him was unjust.

لِلّهِ خِلٌّ صَادِقٌعَهِدْتُهُ عَلَى الْوَفَا

Lillāhi khillun ṣādiqun, ʿahidtuhu ʿalā al-wafā

How wondrous a true friend, whom I have known to be faithful!

وَصَفَهُ الْوَاصِفُ لِيوَهْوَ عَلَى مَا وَصَفَا

Waṣafahu al-wāṣifu lī, Wahwa ʿalā mā waṣafā

The describer described him to me, and he is just as described.

أَسْقَمَنِي هِجْرَانُهُفَكَانَ بِالْوَصْلِ الشِّفَا

Asqamanī hijrānuhu, Fakāna bi-al-waṣli ash-shifā

His desertion made me ill, and union was the cure.

إِذَا أَسَأْتُ أَدَبِيفِي حَقِّهِ عَنِّي عَفَا

Idhā asaʾtu adabī, Fī ḥaqqihi ʿannī ʿafā

When I was discourteous toward his right, he pardoned me.

بِهِ اغْتَنَيْتُ فَهْوَ لِيغِنًى وَحَسْبِي وَكَفَى

Bihi ghtanaytu fahwa lī, Ghinan waḥasbī wakafā

Through him I became rich, for he is my wealth, my sufficiency, and enough.

يَا أَيُّهَا البَرْقُ الَّذِيمِنْ حَيِّهِ قَدْ رَفْرَفَا

Yā ayyuhā al-barqu al-ladhī, Min ḥayyihi qad rafrafā

O lightning that has fluttered from his encampment,

أَظْهَرْتَ مِنْ وَجْدِي الَّذِيفِي مُهْجَتِي قَدِ اخْتَفَى

Aẓharta min wajdī al-ladhī, Fī muhjatī qadi khtafā

You have revealed the ecstasy that was hidden in my heart.

ذَكَّرْتَنِي عَهْداً مَضَىوَطِيبَ عَيْشٍ سَلَفَا

Dhakkartanī ʿahdan maḍā, Waṭība ʿayshin salafā

You reminded me of a pledge gone by, and a sweet life that has passed,

كُنْتُ بِهِ فِي غِبْطَةٍبِبُرْدِهَا مُلْتَحِفَا

Kuntu bihi fī ghibṭatin, Biburdihā multaḥifā

In which I was in bliss, wrapped in its mantle.

يَدُورُ فِيمَا بَيْنَنَاكَأْسٌ مِنَ الوُدِّ صَفَا

Yadūru fīmā baynanā, Kaʾsun mina al-wuddi ṣafā

There went round between us a cup of pure love.

طَابَتْ بِهِ أَرْوَاحُنَاوَهَمُّهَا قَدِ انْتَفَى

Ṭābat bihi arwāḥunā, Wahammuhā qadi ntafā

Our spirits grew sweet through it, and their worry vanished.

يَا رَبَّنَا يَا رَبَّنَاغِثْنَا بِقُرْبِ المُصْطَفَى

Yā rabbanā yā rabbanā, Ghithnā biqurbi al-muṣṭafā

O our Lord, O our Lord, help us with nearness to the Chosen One,

فَإِنَّهُ زَادَتْ بِهِ الأَرْوَاحُ مِنَّا شَغَفَا

Faʾinnahu zādat bihi al-, Arwāḥu minnā shaghafā

For through him our spirits have grown in passion.

فَارْحَمْ إِلَهِي ضَعْفَنَافَنَحْنُ قَوْمٌ ضُعَفَا

Farḥam ilahī ḍaʿfanā, Fanaḥnu qawmun ḍuʿafā

So have mercy on our weakness, my God, for we are a weak people;

لَا نَسْتَطِيعُ الصَّبْرَ عَنْمَحْبُوبِنَا وَلَا الْجَفَا

Lā nastaṭīʿu aṣ-ṣabra ʿan, Maḥbūbinā walā al-jafā

We cannot bear patience away from our beloved, nor estrangement.

فَاكْشِفْ إِلَهِي ضُرَّنَايَا خَيْرَ مَنْ قَدْ كَشَفَا

Fakshif ilahī ḍurranā, Yā khayra man qad kashafā

Lift our harm, my God, O best of those who lift,

وَامْنُنْ عَلَيْنَا بِلِقَاالمَحْبُوبِ جَهْراً وَخَفَا

Wamnun ʿalaynā biliqā, Al-maḥbūbi jahran wakhafā

And grant us the meeting with the beloved, openly and in secret.

وَصَلِّ يَا رَبِّ عَلَىأَعْلَى البَرَايَا شَرَفَا

Waṣalli yā rabbi ʿalā, Aʿlā al-barāyā sharafā

And bless, O Lord, the loftiest of creation in honour,

وَآلِهِ وَصَحْبِهِوَمَنْ لَهُمْ قَدِ اقْتَفَى

Waʾālihi waṣaḥbihi, Waman lahum qadi qtafā

And his family and Companions, and those who have followed them.
