Ya Man Yara Admu'i Tanhallu ka-d-Diyam

Yā man yarā admuʿī tanhallu ka-ad-diyami, Min muqlatayya wajismī bādiya as-saqami

O you who see my tears pouring like rain from my eyes, and my body visibly sick,

Lā taʿjabanna waʾin aṣbaḥtu ka-ar-rimami, Rīmun ʿalā al-qāʿi bayna al-bāni wa-al-ʿalami

Do not be amazed though I have become like decayed bones: a gazelle on the plain between the ban trees and the landmark

Aḥalla safka damī fī al-ʾashhuri al-ḥurumi, Waʿjab liʾamrī faʾinnī lam akun abadā

Has made my blood lawful to shed in the sacred months. And wonder at my state, for I was never

Akhshā ash-shadāʾida law maddat ilayya yadā, Lakinnamā al-ḥubbu aṣmānī faqultu sudā

One to fear hardships, even if they stretched out a hand toward me; but love struck me deaf, and I said: "In vain!"

Ramā al-qaḍāʾu biʿaynay juʾdhurin asadā, Yā sākina al-qāʿi adrik sākina al-ʾajami

Destiny shot a lion with the eyes of a fawn. O dweller of the plain, save the dweller of the thicket!

Ṣāla al-ḥabību binabli aṭ-ṭarfi dhī al-ʿudadi, ʿalā fuʾādī wakhallānī bilā rashadi

The beloved attacked with the many arrows of his glance upon my heart, and left me without my wits.

Waʾidh ramānī waʾawhā sahmuhu jaladī, Jaḥadtuhā wakatamtu as-sahma fī kabidī

When he shot me and his arrow weakened my endurance, I denied it and hid the arrow in my liver:

Jurḥu al-ʾaḥibbati ʿindī ghayru dhī alami, Idhā badā qamarī lā yaẓharu al-qamaru

The wound of beloveds causes me no pain. When my moon appears, the moon does not show itself.

Qad ṭāla fī ḥubbihi at-tafkīru wa-as-saharu, Rūḥī lahu wadamī wa-as-samʿu wa-al-baṣaru

Long have been my thoughts and sleeplessness in his love; my spirit is his, and my blood, my hearing and my sight.

Yā lāʾimī fī hawāhu wa-al-hawā qadaru, Law shaffaka al-wajdu lam taʿdhil walam talumi

O you who blame me in his love, when love is destiny, had ecstasy wasted you, you would neither reproach nor blame.
