Ya Jadda as-Sulala

Yā jadda as-sulāla, Yā majmaʿa kamālah

O grandfather of the noble line, O you in whom perfection is gathered!

Fāʾiqun lilbudūri, Muqtabasun binūrihi

Surpassing the full moons, who take their light from his light,

Mushtāqun an azūrahu, ʿindahu ad-damʿu sālā

I long to visit him; before him tears have flowed.

Ruʾyāka an-nabiyya, Saʿādatun haniyya

To see you, O Prophet, is a joyful happiness,

Birīḥihā al-ʿiṭriyya, Fī an-nawmi aw khayālā

With its perfumed fragrance, in sleep or in imagination.

Jiʾtu lilrriḥābi, Wāqifun bibābih

I have come to the courtyards, standing at his door;

Bimajmaʿi al-ʾaḥbābi, Ḥaṭaṭtu ar-riḥāla

In the gathering of the beloveds I have set down my saddlebags.

Asadun fawqa nārā, Ḥaydar al-karrāra

A lion atop fire, Haydar, who charges again and again:

Kam bi-as-sayfi ṣāla, Kam raʿada al-jibāla

How often he attacked with the sword! How often he made the mountains thunder!

Ahlī waqabūlī, Bi-az-zahrā al-batūli

My family and my acceptance are through al-Zahra' al-Batul;

Yā binta ar-rasūli, Ballighī al-ʾāmāla

O daughter of the Messenger, help us reach our hopes!

Bizaynaba al-mushīra, Wanafīsata al-kabīra

By Zaynab, the counsellor, and Nafisa, the great,

Waʿāʾishata al-munīra, Antum khayru ʾāla

And 'A'isha, the radiant: you are the best of families.

Innanā nawaynā, ʿindahu ataynā

We have made our intention, and we have come to him;

Yā jadda al-ḥasanayni, Inna ash-shawqa ṭāla

O grandfather of al-Hasan and al-Husayn, our longing has grown long.

Qaddamnā al-hadiyyata, Lilʿitrati az-zakiyyati

We have presented our gift to the pure family:

Ṣalātun ʿalā an-nabiyyi, Huwa bāhī al-jamāli

Blessings upon the Prophet, he of resplendent beauty.
