Wa-Allah Ma Hul An Hubbi Ahmad

Wa-al-lahi mā ḥūl ʿan ḥubbi aḥmad, Law qaṭṭaʿatnī suyūfu al-maniyya

By Allah, I will not turn from loving Ahmad, even if the swords of death cut me to pieces.

Taḥta niʿālik khaddī midāsah, Ismaḥ bidhalik mā fīhi bāsa

Beneath your sandals my cheek is a carpet to tread; allow it, there is no harm in it.

Mā fī bijamālak fī al-kawni nāsa, Yā abā az-zahra al-batūl naẓra ilaynā

There is no one in creation with your beauty; O father of al-Zahra' al-Batul, a glance to us!

Mā ghayru wajhik yabrī nidāʾī, Ḍammatun liṣadrik tamḥū shaqāʾī

Nothing but your face heals my cry; an embrace to your breast would erase my misery.

Qad kidtu ahlik irḥam bukāʾī, Rūḥī liʾajlika khudhhā hadiyya

I have almost perished; have mercy on my weeping; my spirit, for your sake, take it as a gift.

Ṭullū ʿalayyā law fī al-manāmi, Yā abā az-zahra al-batūl ṭaha at-tihāmī

Look in on me, even in a dream, O father of al-Zahra' al-Batul, Taha of Tihama!

Ḥubbuka yā sayyidī hayyaja gharāmī, Ṣāra maʿa an-nujūm fawqa ath-thurayyā

Love for you, my master, has stirred my passion; it has risen with the stars above the Pleiades.
