Taba Li Khal'u Idhari

Abd al-Ghani al-Nabulsi

Ṭāba lī khalʿu ʿidhārī, Fī hawā al-badri at-tamām

It is sweet to me to cast off all restraint in love of the full moon.

Yā ʿadhuwlī lā talumnī, Mā ʿalā al-ʿāshiqi malām

O my blamer, do not blame me; there is no blame upon the lover.

Udnu minnī warwi ʿanniy, Anā fī al-ʿishqi imām

Come near me and relate from me: I am an imam in love.

Khamratu al-ʾaḥbābi tujla, Hiya ḥillun lā ḥarām

The wine of the beloveds is unveiled; it is lawful, not forbidden.

Min ʿuyūni al-ʿiyni tumlā, Ṣānahā al-barru as-salām

It is poured from the eyes of the wide-eyed, guarded by the Kind, the Source of Peace.

Yā akhā al-ʾashwāqi yammim, Sayyida ar-rusli al-kirām

O brother of longing, make for the master of the noble messengers,

Waghnami adh-dhikra wazamzim, Biṣalātin maʿ salām

Seize remembrance and chant blessings with peace

Liḥabiybi Allāh aḥmad, Kullamā janna aẓ-ẓalām

For the beloved of Allah, Ahmad, whenever darkness falls.

Kullu man wālāhu yasʿad, Wayanāl ḥusna al-khitām

Everyone who befriends him is happy, and attains a good end.
