Salli Ya Salam Ala al-Wasila

Shaykh Muhammad ibn Yallis

Ṣalli yā salām ʿalā al-wasīla, Washamsi al-ʾanām ṭalʿati laylā

Bless, O Source of Peace, the means of approach, the sun of mankind, the face of Layla.

Yā sāqī al-ʿushshāq amla al-kuʾūsā, Min khamri al-ʾadhwāq yuḥyī an-nufūsā

O cupbearer of the lovers, fill the cups with the wine of spiritual tastes that revives souls.

Ḥaḍratu al-ʾiṭlāq abdat shumūsā, Maḥati ar-rawāq ʿan wajhi laylā

The Presence of the Absolute has revealed suns that have swept the curtain from Layla's face.

Mubtaghā al-ʿushshāq ḥīna tajallā, Fī dhāti al-khallāq al-mawlā jalla

The aim of the lovers when He manifested in the Essence of the Creator, the Master, exalted is He,

Min baḥri al-ʾiṭlāq ḥīna tajallā, Bikulli rawnaq jamālu laylā

From the sea of the Absolute, when there manifested in all its splendour the beauty of Layla.

Ṣāḥati al-ʾaṭyār fawqa al-manābir, Wafāḥa al-ʾazhār wa-ar-rawḍu ʿāṭir

The birds cried out above the pulpits, the flowers gave off their fragrance and the garden was scented,

Rannati al-ʾawtār wa-al-ḥibbu ḥāḍir, Ghanni yā khammār biḥusni laylā

The strings resounded and the beloved was present: sing, O tavern-keeper, of Layla's beauty!

Yā ʿayna al-ʿuyūn ẓaharta jahrā, Bijamʿi al-funūn kaʾsan wakhamrā

O source of all sources, you appeared openly, uniting all the arts, the cup and the wine.

Zālati ash-shujūn ṭābati al-ḥaḍra, Bi-as-sirri al-maknūn min kanzi laylā

Sorrows vanished, the gathering grew sweet with the hidden secret from Layla's treasure.

Ibnu yallis hām lammā suqiyā, Min khamri al-ʾadhwāq fānī bāqiyā

Ibn Yallis was enraptured when he was given drink from the wine of tastes, passing away and abiding.

ʿalayka as-salām khayra al-bariyya, Mā suqiya al-mudām fī ḥayyi laylā

Upon you be peace, O best of creation, as long as the wine is poured in Layla's encampment.
