Salatu Allah Ala Taha al-Yamani

Habib Ali bin Muhammad al-Habashi

Ṣalātu Allāh ʿalā ṭaha al-yamānī, Shafīʿi al-khalqi fī yawmi al-qiyāma

The blessings of Allah upon Taha, the Yemeni, intercessor for creation on the Day of Resurrection.

Daʿūnī falladhī ahwā daʿānī, Waʾabdā lī mina al-bushrā ʿalāma

Leave me, for the one I love has called me, and shown me a sign of glad tidings,

Waʾaẓhara lī ghamīḍāti al-maʿānī, Yaqīnan ʿinda mā kashafa al-lithāma

And revealed to me hidden meanings with certainty, when He lifted the veil.

Saqānī al-kaʾs afdī man saqānī, Alā lillāh min tilka al-mudāma

He gave me the cup to drink; my ransom to the one who gave me drink! Oh, how wondrous that wine!

Wafakka al-qayda min baʿdi mtiḥānī, Waʾatḥafanī biʾanwāʿi al-karāma

He loosened the chain after my trial, and gifted me with every kind of honour,

Waʾawḍaḥa fī al-hawā qaṣdī washānī, ʿalā waraʿin wajannabanī al-malāma

And made clear in love my aim and my state, with scrupulousness, and spared me blame.

Maḍā fī al-ʿilmi wa-at-taqwā zamānī, Wafī al-ʾukhrā ilā dāri al-muqāma

My time has passed in knowledge and piety, and in the Hereafter, on to the Abode of Lasting Stay.

Waḥādī ar-rakbi lammā an ḥadānī, Ilā safḥi an-naqā mā bayna rāma

And the caravan's driver, when he drove me to the slope of al-Naqa, near Rama,

Ajabtu lahu walam alwī ʿinānī, Ilā wāshin walā ahli al-malāma

I answered him and did not turn my reins to a slanderer or to the people of blame.

Waḥasbī annanī bi-al-bābi ḥānī, ʿalā al-ʾaʿtāb ilā yawmi al-qiyāma

It suffices me that I am bent low at the door, upon the thresholds, until the Day of Resurrection.

Salūnī fa-al-hawā fannī washānī, Waqad aṣbaḥtu yā khillī ghulāma

Ask me, for love is my art and my concern, and I have become, my friend, a servant.

Ḥaḍarnāhum ʿalā khamri ad-dinānī, ʿalayhim amṭarat tilka al-ghamāma

We joined them over the wine of the jars; upon them that cloud has rained.

Wahum fī as-sukri mā shahidū lithānī, Wabaynahumu mina al-mawlā ʿalāma

In their intoxication they witnessed no second, and among them is a sign from the Master

Tadullu ʿalā ar-riḍā fī kulli ʾānī, Walā yakhshawna ʿuqbāhā an-nadāma

That points to His good pleasure at every moment, and they fear no regret as its outcome.

Lahum min fāʾiḍāti al-ʾimtināni, Mawāhib adrakū fīhā al-ʾimāma

Theirs are gifts from the overflowing favours through which they attained leadership.

Perhaps with them we will go to the abode of the Gardens, with the Prophet, the leader, as our cupbearer.

ʿalayhi Allāhu ṣallā kulla ʾānī, Waʾālih mā sajaʿ qumrī al-ḥamāma

May Allah bless him at every moment, and his family, as long as the turtle-dove coos.
