Safati an-Nazrah

Ṣafati an-naẓrah ṭābati al-ḥaḍra, Jāʾati al-bushrā liʾahli Allāhi

The gaze has become pure, the gathering is sweet, glad tidings have come to the people of Allah.

Qāmuw sukārā lidhī al-bishārah, Jaʿaluw ʿimārah shukran lillāhi

They rose intoxicated at these glad tidings, and held a circle of remembrance in thanks to Allah.

Ayyuhā al-ḥāḍir udhkur wadhākir, Iyyāka tunkir ḥāla ahli Allāhi

O you who are present, remember and join the remembrance; beware of denying the state of the people of Allah.

Fasallim lahum fīmā ʿarāhum, Waʿlam annahum ghābuw fī Allāhi

Accept what has come over them, and know that they are lost in Allah.

Fa-al-wajdu bihim dāʿiy yadʿiyhim, Yaṭraʾ ʿalayhim fiy dhikri Allāhi

Ecstasy is a caller that calls them, coming upon them in the remembrance of Allah.

Waman lam yajid falyatawājad, Qaṣdan yataʿarraḍ lifaḍli Allāhi

And whoever does not feel it, let him seek it, intending to expose himself to the bounty of Allah.

Hakadhā qāluw walidhā mālaw, Walaqad ghāluw fī dhikri Allāhi

So they have said, and so they have inclined, and they have gone to extremes in the remembrance of Allah,

Ḥattā qad ẓannā man laysa minnā, Annā juninnā bidhikri Allāhi

Until those who are not of us thought that we had gone mad with the remembrance of Allah.

Haniyʾan lanā thumma bushrānā, In kāna lanā ḥumqun fī Allāhi

Joy to us, then glad tidings, if we have any madness in Allah!
