Qul li-dh-Dhi Qad Lamani

Allāhu ḥasbī wakafā, Qul mā tashaʾ yā dhā al-fuḍūl

Allah is my sufficiency, and He suffices; say what you will, O meddler.

Qul lilladhī qad lāmanī, Daʿnī washaʾnī yā ʿadhūl

Say to the one who blamed me: "Leave me to my state, O blamer.

Law kunta tadrī mā jarā, Mā kunta tanhā yā jahūl

If you knew what has happened, you would not forbid me, O ignorant one.

Amā tarā jismiya as-saqīma, Qad shaffahu dāʾu an-nuḥūl

Do you not see my sick body, wasted by the illness of emaciation?

Qul lī biman hadhā al-ʿanā, Wadhā at-taṣābī wa-adh-dhuhūl

Tell me, for whom is this suffering, this youthful passion and bewilderment?"

Yā sākinīna sarāʾirī, ʿindī lakum ṣafwu al-widād

O you who dwell in my inmost heart, I hold for you the purest love.

Mallaktukum yā sādatī, Zimāma amrī wa-al-qiyād

I have given you, my masters, the reins of my affairs and my lead.

Lā tuhmilū man qad ghadā, Yasmū bikum bayna al-ʿibād

Do not neglect one who has come to rise through you among people,

Wāqifun ʿalā al-bābi muqīmun, Yarjū as-saʿādata wa-al-qabūl

Standing, staying at the door, hoping for happiness and acceptance.

Habbat nusaymātu al-wiṣāl, Min jānibi al-qudsi al-ʿaliyy

The breezes of union have blown from the side of the High Holiness,

Wastaghraqat anwāruhā, ʿawālima al-qalbi al-khaliyy

And their lights have flooded the worlds of the heart that is empty

ʿammā siwā maʿbūdihi, Al-wāḥidi al-ḥaqqi al-waliyy

Of all but the One it worships, the One, the True, the Protector,

Wakūshifat asrāruhu, Waḥalla fī burji al-wuṣūl

And its secrets have been unveiled, and it has alighted in the tower of arrival.

Bāta al-muḥibbu maʿa al-ḥabīb, Wa-al-ʿādhilu al-ghāfilu baʿīd

The lover spent the night with the beloved, while the heedless blamer was far away.

Lam yadri mā shaʾnu al-hawā, Bayna al-mawālī wa-al-ʿabīd

He did not know the nature of love between masters and servants.

Yā wayḥahu mādhā ʿalayhi, Law kāna yaʿrifu lilssaʿīd

Woe to him! What harm would it do him if he knew, of the happy one,

Makānahu min rabbihi, Wa-al-lahu yaʿlamu mā yaqūl

His place with his Lord? And Allah knows what he says.

Mādhā yaqūlu al-munkirūna, Fīman lahu qalbun salīm

What do the deniers say of one who has a sound heart,

Muḥibbun lijamīʿi al-muslimīna, Waqaṣduhu al-mawlā al-karīm

Loving all Muslims, whose aim is the Generous Master,

Wayaʿtaqid fī nafsihi, Biʾannahu ʿabdun dhamīm

And who believes of himself that he is a blameworthy servant,

Lawlā ʿināyatu rabbihi, Lakāna baṭṭālan ḍalūl

Who, but for his Lord's care, would be idle and astray?
