Musalla al-Athar

Naḥnu fī muṣallā al-ʾaṭhāri bimanni, Wafaḍli mawlānā al-karīmi taʿālā

We are in the prayer-place of the pure, by the grace and bounty of our Generous Master, exalted is He.

Nanālu an-naʿmāʾa al-jizāla waliman, Ḥaḍara yaḥṣulu hibātin taghālā

We obtain abundant blessings, and to whoever is present come gifts of great worth.

Muṣallan bihi ttiṣālunā liʾaṣfā l, Barāyā waman ʿalā darbihi sārā

A prayer-place through which we are joined to the purest of creation and to those who travelled his path.

Maṭlabunā al-ʾasnā taʿālā al-maʿbūdu, Ibṣāruhu wa-as-samʿu minhu salāman

Our most sublime aim is the Worshipped One, exalted is He: His seeing, and His hearing from us our greeting of peace,

Bi-as-sanadi al-mawṣūli lilmuhājiri, Thumma ilā bnayhi waman yusammā

Through the unbroken chain to al-Muhajir, then to his two sons and the one named

ʿubaydan wa-at-taṣghīru lilttawāḍuʿi, Laysa liqillati al-biḍāʿati ḥāshā

'Ubayd, the diminutive being for humility, not, God forbid, for lack of merit.

Biqarnin faqarnin yamurru at-talaqqī, Ḥattā al-ʾasrāru wa-aẓ-ẓawāhir talāqā

Generation after generation the transmission passes, until the secrets and the outward forms meet

Bi-al-faqīhi al-ladhī taqaddam fī ar-rutba, Bishuhra fī al-barāzikhi qad tajallā

In al-Faqih, foremost in rank, who shone with renown in the barzakh,

Muḥammadin bni ʿaliyyin ilā man, Minhu ilā al-yawmi al-wirāthati ḍummā

Muhammad ibn 'Ali, down to those in whom, to this day, the inheritance is gathered.

Fī ʿumara al-basmatu minhu qad surrat, Bihā al-qulūbu watudhhibu ghumūmā

In 'Umar, his smile has gladdened hearts and dispels griefs.

Taʿkisu lilrrāʾī anwāra al-ḥaddādi, Wafakhri al-wujūdi wabaḥri karāma

It reflects to the beholder the lights of al-Haddad, the pride of existence and an ocean of marvels,

Wabni aḥmada min ʾāli as-saqqāfi, Thumma al-haddāri lā yakhāfu man lāmā

And Ibn Ahmad of the family of al-Saqqaf, then al-Haddar, who fears no blamer.

Aqirra binā lilḥabībi ʿuyūnā, Yā rabbi adim lahu minka riʿāya

Make the beloved's eyes delight in us; O Lord, keep him ever in Your care.

Wanasʾaluka Allāhumma an tajʿalā, Majālisanā dāʾiman murtabiṭa

And we ask You, O Allah, to make our gatherings ever connected

Bikulli mā fī muṣallā ahli al-kisā, Waʾawṣilan mā hunāka ilā hunā

With all that is in the prayer-place of the People of the Cloak, and to bring what is there to here.

Fahum rijālun kuramāʾu aṣfiyā, Wayastaḥīlu takhyībuhum lilrrajā

For they are noble, pure men, and it is impossible that they should disappoint hope.

Hum ʿāhadūnā bi-al-wafā waʾakhbarū, Man ʿarafnā law nasūnā mā sayyabnā

They pledged faithfulness to us and told those we know: "Even if they forget us, we will not abandon them."

Fayā abā sālimin qum wakun lanā, Maʿanā wabinā fī al-ḥissi wa-al-maʿnā

So, O Abu Salim, rise and be for us, with us and through us, outwardly and inwardly.

Fahāhunā ṭalabun ṭaraḥnāhu bi, Bābikum wastawdaʿnākahu lilbukra

Here is a request that we have laid at your door and entrusted to you until the morning.
