مَطْلَبِي مِنْ حَبِيبِ القَلْبِ رُؤْيَةْ مُحَيَّاهْ

مَطْلَبِي مِنْ حَبِيبِ القَلْبِ رُؤْيَةْ مُحَيَّاهْرَبِّ حَقِّقْ لِقَلْبِي كُلَّ مَا قَدْ تَمَنَّاهْ

Maṭlabī min ḥabībi al-qalbi ruʾya muḥayyāh, Rabbi ḥaqqiq liqalbī kulla mā qad tamannāh

My aim from the beloved of the heart is to see his face; Lord, fulfil for my heart all it has wished.

فَإِنَّ قِدْ لِي زَمَنْ يَا رَبِّ أَشْتَاقْ رُؤْيَاهْبَخِتْ مَنْ شَرَّفَ المَوْلَى بِرُؤْيَةْ عَيْنَاهْ

Faʾinna qid lī zaman yā rabbi ashtāq ruʾyāh, Bakhit man sharrafa al-mawlā biruʾya ʿaynāh

For a long time, O Lord, I have longed to see him; fortunate is the one whose eyes the Master honoured with seeing him.

يَا سَمِيعَ الدُّعَا حَقِّقْ لِذَا القَلِبْ رَجْوَاهْطَالَتْ أَيَّامْ بُعْدِي عَنْهُ فَادْرِكْ بِلُقْيَاهْ

Yā samīʿa ad-duʿā ḥaqqiq lidhā al-qalib rajwāh, Ṭālat ayyām buʿdī ʿanhu fadrik biluqyāh

O Hearer of prayer, fulfil this heart's hope; the days of my distance from him have grown long, so grant me to meet him.

مَا احْسَنَ اوْصَافُهُ العُظْمَى وَمَا احْسَنْ سَجَايَاهْعَاشَتِ الرُّوحْ بِهْ فِي أُنُسْ مَا احْسَنُهْ وَاحْلَاهْ

Mā ḥsana awṣāfuhu al-ʿuẓmā wamā ḥsan sajāyāh, ʿāshati ar-rūḥ bih fī unus mā ḥsanuh waḥlāh

How beautiful his mighty qualities, how beautiful his character! The spirit has lived through him in an intimacy so beautiful and sweet.

يَا نَدِيمِي أَدِرْ ذِكْرَهْ عَلَيّ فَإِنِّي أَهْوَاهْوَاذْكُرْ أَيَّامْ فِيهَا قَدْ نَفَحْ طِيبْ رَيَّاهْ

Yā nadīmī adir dhikrah ʿalayy faʾinnī ahwāh, Wadhkur ayyām fīhā qad nafaḥ ṭīb rayyāh

O my companion, pass his remembrance around to me, for I love him, and recall days in which the sweetness of his fragrance spread,

عَرِفْ طَيِّبْ إِذَا مَا شَمَّهُ المَيِّتْ أَحْيَاهْجَدِّدُوا لِي صَفَا وَقْتِي وَأُنْسِي بِذِكْرَاهْ

ʿarif ṭayyib idhā mā shammahu al-mayyit aḥyāh, Jaddidū lī ṣafā waqtī waʾunsī bidhikrāh

A fragrant scent that, were the dead to smell it, would revive them. Renew for me the purity of my time and my intimacy with his remembrance,

وَاذْكُرُوا لِي عُهُودِي المَاضِيَةْ بَيْنْ أَفْيَاهْفَانَّنِي قَدْ رَضِيتِهِ كُلَّ مَا كَانَ يَرْضَاهْ

Wadhkurū lī ʿuhūdī al-māḍiya bayn afyāh, Fannanī qad raḍītihi kulla mā kāna yarḍāh

And remind me of my past pledges in his shade, for I am content with all that he was content with,

وَانَّنِي عَبِدْ لُهْ مَمْلُوكْ فِي كُلِّ مَا شَاهْلَيْسَ لِي قَصِدْ فِي كُلِّ الوَرَى غَيْرْ إِيَّاهْ

Wannanī ʿabid luh mamlūk fī kulli mā shāh, Laysa lī qaṣid fī kulli al-warā ghayr iyyāh

And I am his servant, owned in all he wills; I have no aim among all creation but him.

كَمْ وَكَمْ عَبِدْ بِهْ قَدْ طَالْ فِي الكَوْنِ مَبْنَاهْكَمْ وَكَمْ سِرّ عِنْدَ الذِّكْرِ لُهْ قَدْ وَجَدْنَاهْ

Kam wakam ʿabid bih qad ṭāl fī al-kawni mabnāh, Kam wakam sirr ʿinda adh-dhikri luh qad wajadnāh

How many, many a servant has raised his building high in creation through him! How many, many a secret we have found in his remembrance!

قَدْ طَعِمْنَاهْ يَا لَلّٰهْ مَا قَدْ طَعِمْنَاهْكَمْ وَكَمْ عَهِدْ لُهْ فِي السِّرِّ مِنَّا حَفِظْنَاهْ

Qad ṭaʿimnāh yā lillāh mā qad ṭaʿimnāh, Kam wakam ʿahid luh fī as-sirri minnā ḥafiẓnāh

We have tasted it; by Allah, what we have tasted! How many, many a pledge to him we have kept in secret!

يَا سَمِيعَ الدُّعَا وَفِّرْ عَلِيّ مِنْ عَطَايَاهْوَاهْلِهِ الكُلِّ وَاوْلَادِهْ وَصَحْبِهْ وَحِبَّاهْ

Yā samīʿa ad-duʿā waffir ʿaliyy min ʿaṭāyāh, Wahlihi al-kulli waawlādih waṣaḥbih waḥibbāh

O Hearer of prayer, give 'Ali abundantly of his gifts, and all his family, his children, his companions and loved ones.

وَالصَّلَاةُ عَلَيْهِ إِنُّهْ غِنَى مَنْ تَوَلَّاهْوَالصَّلَاةُ عَلَيْهْ إِنُّهْ غِنَى مَنْ تَوَلَّاهْ

Wa-aṣ-ṣalātu ʿalayhi innuh ghinā man tawallāh, Wa-aṣ-ṣalātu ʿalayh innuh ghinā man tawallāh

And blessings upon him, for he is the wealth of whoever takes him as master; and blessings upon him, for he is the wealth of whoever takes him as master.
