In Jabartum Kasra Qalbi

Abd al-Ghani al-Nabulsi

In jabartum kasra qalbī, Antumu ahlu az-zimām

If you mend the brokenness of my heart, you are the ones who hold the reins;

Aw waṣaltum yā ḥabāyib, Hakadhā shaʾnu al-kirām

Or if you grant union, O beloveds, such is the way of the noble.

Qālat aqmāru ad-dayājī, Qul liʾarbābi al-gharām

The moons of the dark nights said: "Say to the masters of passion:

Kullu man yaʿshaq muḥammad, Fī amānin wasalām

Everyone who loves Muhammad is in safety and peace."

Maraja al-baḥrayni damʿī, Kāda an yaltaqiyān

My tears have let the two seas flow forth, almost meeting;

Bayna samʿī wafuʾādī, Barzakhun lā yabghiyān

Between my hearing and my heart is a barrier they do not overpass.

Waḥabībī wajanatāhu, Wardatāni ka-ad-dihān

And my beloved: his two cheeks are two roses, red like oiled hide.

Wadumūʿu al-ʿayni tajrī, Mithla haṭṭāli al-ghamām

And the tears of my eyes flow like the downpour of the clouds.

Sārati ar-rukbānu tasʿā, Qaṣdahum arḍa al-ḥijāz

The riders set out, hastening, their goal the land of the Hijaz,

Wa-al-maṭāyā tatarāmā, Biḍṭirābin wahtizāz

And the camels press on with trembling and tossing.

Kullamā al-ḥādī daʿāhum, Lilssurā man jadda faz

Whenever the driver called them to night travel, whoever strove succeeded.

Wa-al-hawā fī al-qalbi yarmī, Kulla waqtin bi-as-sihāmi

And love in the heart shoots its arrows at every moment.

Arsala Allāhu ilaynā, Bi-al-karāmāti al-ʿiẓāmi

Allah sent to us, with mighty marvels,

Aḥmada al-mukhtāra ṭaha, Sayyida ar-rusli al-kirāmi

Ahmad the Chosen, Taha, master of the noble messengers.
