فَزَّازِيَّة

يَا مَنْ عُلَاهُ أَرْضُهَا الجَوْزَاءُ

Yā man ʿulāhu arḍuhā al-jawzāʾu

O you whose loftiness has the Twins as its ground,

وَلَهَا عَلَى عَرْشِ الكَمَالِ سَمَاءُ

Walahā ʿalā ʿarshi al-kamāli samāʾu

And which has a sky upon the throne of perfection,

يَا مَنْ مَدَاهُ لَمْ يَصِلْهُ ذَكَاءُ

Yā man madāhu lam yaṣilhu dhakāʾu

O you whose range no intelligence has reached:

اللهُ أَكْبَرُ أُفْحِمَ الفُصَحَاءُوَتَحَيَّرَتْ فِي وَصْفِكَ الشُّعَرَاءُ

Allāhu akbaru ufḥima al-fuṣaḥāʾu, Wataḥayyarat fī waṣfika ash-shuʿarāʾu

Allah is Greatest! The eloquent are struck dumb, and the poets are bewildered in describing you.

مَنْ كَانَ لَيْسَ لِمَا حَوَاهُ نِهَايَةٌ

Man kāna laysa limā ḥawāhu nihāyatun

One whose treasures have no end,

وَلَهُ الكِتَابُ عَلَى النُّبُوَّةِ آيَةٌ

Walahu al-kitābu ʿalā an-nubuwwati ʾāyatun

Whose sign of prophethood is the Book,

مَا عَرَّفَتْهُ رِوَايَةٌ وَدِرَايَةٌ

Mā ʿarrafathu riwāyatun wadirāyatun

Whom neither narration nor understanding has fully known:

اللهُ أَكْبَرُ مَا لِمَجْدِكَ غَايَةٌأَبَداً فَيُدْرِكُ طَوْرَهَا القُرَنَاءُ

Allāhu akbaru mā limajdika ghāyatun, Abadan fayudriku ṭawrahā al-quranāʾu

Allah is Greatest! Your glory has no limit that equals could ever reach.

يَا مَنْ جَمِيعُ الكَوْنِ فِيهِ تَسَطَّرَا

Yā man jamīʿu al-kawni fīhi tasaṭṭarā

O you in whom all creation is inscribed,

وَبِضَوْئِهِ ضَوْءُ الوُجُودِ تَسَتَّرَا

Wabiḍawʾihi ḍawʾu al-wujūdi tasattarā

Before whose light the light of existence hides,

يَا مَظْهَرَ الذَّاتِ الَّذِي وَسِعَ الوَرَى

Yā maẓhara adh-dhāti al-ladhī wasiʿa al-warā

O manifestation of the Essence that embraces creation:

أَمُحَمَّدٌ يَا خَيْرَ مَنْ وَطِئَ الثَّرَىوَسَرَتْ بِهِ الشَّمْلُولَةُ العَضْبَاءُ

Amuḥammadun yā khayra man waṭiʾa ath-tharā, Wasarat bihi ash-shamlūlatu al-ʿaḍbāʾu

O Muhammad, O best of all who walked the earth, carried by night on the swift she-camel al-'Adba',

أَوْضَحْتَ مِنْ سِرِّ الحَقِيْقَةِ كَامِنَا

Awḍaḥta min sirri al-ḥaqiyqati kāminā

You made clear the hidden secret of Reality,

وَأَبَنْتَ فِي سَيْرِ الطَّرِيقِ مَوَاطِنَا

Waʾabanta fī sayri aṭ-ṭarīqi mawāṭinā

And showed the stations on the journey of the Path,

يَا مَنْ لَنَا فِي الحَشْرِ أَضْحَى ضَامِنَا

Yā man lanā fī al-ḥashri aḍḥā ḍāminā

O you who have become our guarantor at the Gathering:

أَنْتَ الَّذِي تَرِدُ القِيَامَةَ آمِنَاوَلَدَيْكَ مِنْ ذِي الكِبْرِيَاءِ ثَنَاءُ

Anta al-ladhī taridu al-qiyāmata ʾāminā, Waladayka min dhī al-kibriyāʾi thanāʾu

You are the one who will arrive safe at the Resurrection, and you have the praise of the Lord of Grandeur.

مَعْنَى كَمَالِكَ لِلْبَرِيَّةِ أَيْقَظَا

Maʿnā kamālika lilbariyyati ayqaẓā

The meaning of your perfection awakened creation,

حَتَّى اهْتَدَى غَاوِي الوَرَى وَتَيَقَّظَا

Ḥattā htadā ghāwī al-warā watayaqqaẓā

Until the strayed among mankind were guided and awoke,

وَشَدَا بِنَظْمِ المَدْحِ فِيكَ تَلَفُّظَا

Washadā binaẓmi al-madḥi fīka talaffuẓā

And sang aloud in strung verses of praise for you:

أَنْتَ الشَّفِيعُ غَداً إِذَا زَفَرَتْ لَظَىوَتَأَخَّرَتْ عَنْ قَوْمِهَا الشُّفَعَاءُ

Anta ash-shafīʿu ghadan idhā zafarat laẓā, Wataʾakhkharat ʿan qawmihā ash-shufaʿāʾu

You are the intercessor tomorrow when the Blaze roars, and the intercessors hang back from their peoples.

يَا سَيِّدَ السَّادَاتِ يَا عَلَمَ الهُدَى

Yā sayyida as-sādāti yā ʿalama al-hudā

O master of masters, O banner of guidance,

يَا مَنْ بِتَكْمِيلِ الكَمَالِ تَفَرَّدَا

Yā man bitakmīli al-kamāli tafarradā

O you unique in perfecting perfection,

يَا مَنْ بِهِ خَبَرُ المَعَالِي مُبْتَدَا

Yā man bihi khabaru al-maʿālī mubtadā

O you with whom the tale of the heights begins:

أَنْتَ الَّذِي أَرْوَيْتَ أَلْفاً مِنْ يَدَامُتَفَجِّراً مِنْ رَاحَتَيْكَ المَاءُ

Anta al-ladhī arwayta alfan min yadā, Mutafajjiran min rāḥatayka al-māʾu

You are the one who quenched a thousand from a single hand, the water gushing from your palms.

يَا مَنْ حَبَاهُ اللهُ أَجْزَلَ مَا حَبَا

Yā man ḥabāhu Allāhu ajzala mā ḥabā

O you whom Allah granted the most abundant of gifts,

وَلَهُ إِلَٰهُ العَرْشِ نَزَّهَ فِي سَبَا

Walahu ilāhu al-ʿarshi nazzaha fī sabā

Whom the God of the Throne cleared of all blame in Surat Saba',

وَبِمَجْدِهِ أَعْلَا عُلَا أَهْلِ العَبَا

Wabimajdihi aʿlā ʿulā ahli al-ʿabā

And by whose glory He raised high the People of the Cloak:

أَنْتَ الَّذِي نَصَرَتْهُ أَنْفَاسُ الصَّبَافِي حِزْبِهِ وَازَّعْزَعَ الهَوْجَاءُ

Anta al-ladhī naṣarathu anfāsu aṣ-ṣabā, Fī ḥizbihi wazzaʿzaʿa al-hawjāʾu

You are the one whom the breaths of the east wind helped in his party, while the storm wind shook the foe.

يَا مَنْ بِهِ مَوْلَاهُ قَدْ أَسْرَى عَلَنْ

Yā man bihi mawlāhu qad asrā ʿalan

O you whom his Master took by night openly,

وَأَرَاهُ مَا فِيهِ لِمُوسَى قَالَ لَنْ

Waʾarāhu mā fīhi limūsā qāla lan

And showed what He told Moses, "You will not see Me,"

وَعَلَى بِسَاطِ القُرْبِ نَادَى أَقْبِلَنْ

Waʿalā bisāṭi al-qurbi nādā aqbilan

And on the carpet of nearness called: "Come forward!"

أَنْتَ الشَّدِيدُ عَلَى الطُّغَاةِ إِذَا عَلَاالنَّقْعُ المُثَارُ وَهَاجَتِ الهَيْجَاءُ

Anta ash-shadīdu ʿalā aṭ-ṭughāti idhā ʿalā, An-naqʿu al-muthāru wahājati al-hayjāʾu

You are stern against the tyrants when the stirred-up dust rises and the battle rages.

بِالمَجْدِ جِئْتَ مُتَوَّجاً وَمُقَمَّصاً

Bi-al-majdi jiʾta mutawwajan wamuqammaṣan

With glory you came, crowned and robed,

وَالفَضْلُ حُزْتَ مُعَمَّماً وَمُخَصَّصاً

Wa-al-faḍlu ḥuzta muʿammaman wamukhaṣṣaṣan

And virtue you won, both general and particular,

وَسَمَوْتَ أَطْوَارَ العُقُولِ تَخَصُّصاً

Wasamawta aṭwāra al-ʿuqūli takhaṣṣuṣan

And you rose above the stages of minds in distinction:

أَوْطَأْتَ مِنْبَرَكَ المُعَظَّمَ أَخْمِصاًشَرُفَتْ بِمَوْقِعِ وَطْئِهَا الجَوْزَاءُ

Awṭaʾta minbaraka al-muʿaẓẓama akhmiṣan, Sharufat bimawqiʿi waṭʾihā al-jawzāʾu

You set your sole upon your mighty pulpit, and the Twins were honoured by the place where it trod.

وَأَتَيْتَ تَهْدِي لِلْبَرِيَّةِ هَازِماً

Waʾatayta tahdī lilbariyyati hāziman

You came guiding creation, routing

جَيْشَ الضَّلَالِ لِدِينِ رَبِّكَ قَائِماً

Jaysha aḍ-ḍalāli lidīni rabbika qāʾiman

The army of misguidance, upholding your Lord's religion,

حَتَّى غَدَا الإِسْلَامُ جَمْعاً سَالِماً

Ḥattā ghadā al-ʾislāmu jamʿan sāliman

Until Islam became a sound and united whole:

أَوْمَأْتَ وَالأَصْنَامُ تُعْبَدُ دَائِماًجَهْراً فَنَكَّسَهَا لَكَ الإِيمَاءُ

Awmaʾta wa-al-ʾaṣnāmu tuʿbadu dāʾiman, Jahran fanakkasahā laka al-ʾīmāʾu

You pointed while the idols were openly worshipped without end, and your pointing overturned them.

وَمَنَحْتَ أُمَّتَكَ السَّعِيدَةَ مِنَّةً

Wamanaḥta ummataka as-saʿīdata minnatan

You granted your blessed nation a favour

لَمْ تُبْقِ فِيهِمْ لِلشُّكُوكِ مَظِنَّةً

Lam tubqi fīhim lilshshukūki maẓinnatan

That left no room among them for doubt,

وَلَهَا كِتَاباً قَدْ نَشَرْتَ وَسُنَّةً

Walahā kitāban qad nasharta wasunnatan

And spread for it a Book and a Sunna:

أَبْقَيْتَ فِينَا الذِّكْرَ بَعْدَكَ جُنَّةًتَهْدِي بِهِ جُهَّالَنَا العُلَمَاءُ

Abqayta fīnā adh-dhikra baʿdaka junnatan, Tahdī bihi juhhālanā al-ʿulamāʾu

You left the Remembrance among us after you as a shield, by which the learned guide our ignorant.
