بِكَ قَدْ صَفَتْ مِنْ دَهْرِنَا الأَيَّامُ

بِكَ قَدْ صَفَتْ مِنْ دَهْرِنَا الأَيَّامُوَتَشَرَّفَتْ بِوُجُوْدِكَ الأَعْوَامُ

Bika qad ṣafat min dahrinā al-ʾayyāmu, Watasharrafat biwujuwdika al-ʾaʿwāmu

Through you the days of our time have become pure, and the years have been honoured by your existence.

وَلَكَ الْمَحَامِدُ كُلُّهَا أُوتِيْتَهَافَاطْرَبْ فَقَدْ نُشِرَتْ لَكَ الأَعْلَامُ

Walaka al-maḥāmidu kulluhā ūtiytahā, Faṭrab faqad nushirat laka al-ʾaʿlāmu

Yours are all praises; you were given them, so rejoice, for the banners have been unfurled for you.

أُوتِيْتَ مِنْ فَضْلِ المُهَيْمِنِ مِنْحَةًمَا تَسْتَطِيْعُ تَخُطُّهَا الْأَقْلَامُ

Ūtiyta min faḍli al-muhaymini minḥatan, Mā tastaṭiyʿu takhuṭṭuhā al-ʾaqlāmu

You were given, from the bounty of the Guardian, a gift that pens are unable to write.

فَلَكَ التَّقَدُّمُ فِي الفَضَائِلِ كُلِّهَافَاقْدُمْ فَأَنْتَ لِمَنْ سِوَاكَ إِمَامُ

Falaka at-taqaddumu fī al-faḍāʾili kullihā, Faqdum faʾanta liman siwāka imāmu

Yours is precedence in every virtue; so step forward, for you are the imam of all besides you.

وَالْفَخْرُ فِيكَ تَجَمَّعَتْ أَوْصَافُهُفَلَكَ الْعُلَى وَالْمَجْدُ وَالْإِعْظَامُ

Wa-al-fakhru fīka tajammaʿat awṣāfuhu, Falaka al-ʿulā wa-al-majdu wa-al-ʾiʿẓāmu

Glory has gathered all its qualities in you, so yours are loftiness, majesty and reverence.

أَنْتَ الَّذِيْ حُزْتَ الجَمَالَ بِأَسْرِهِوَبِنُورِ وَجْهِكَ يَضْمَحِلُّ ظَلَامُ

Anta al-ladhiy ḥuzta al-jamāla biʾasrihi, Wabinūri wajhika yaḍmaḥillu ẓalāmu

You are the one who has won all of beauty, and by the light of your face darkness fades away.

أَنْتَ الَّذِي حَارَ النُّهَى فِي وَصْفِهِوَبِحُسْنِهِ قَدْ تَاهَتِ الأَحْلَامُ

Anta al-ladhī ḥāra an-nuhā fī waṣfihi, Wabiḥusnihi qad tāhati al-ʾaḥlāmu

You are the one whose description bewilders the intellect, and in whose beauty dreams have lost their way.

يَا أَوَّلًا قَدْ قَدَّمَتْكَ إِرَادَةٌسَبَقَتْ وَفَضْلُ اللهِ وَالْإِنْعَامُ

Yā awwalan qad qaddamatka irādatun, Sabaqat wafaḍlu Allāhi wa-al-ʾinʿāmu

O first one, whom a Will that went before put forward, along with Allah's bounty and blessing:

فَلَئِنْ بَرَزْتَ إِلَى الشَّهَادَةِ آخِراًفَوُجُودُ رُوحِكَ لِلْوَرَى قُدَّامُ

Falaʾin barazta ilā ash-shahādati ʾākhiran, Fawujūdu rūḥika lilwarā quddāmu

Though you appeared in the visible world last, your spirit's existence came before all creation.

فَاضَتْ مِنَ الْمَوْلَى عَلَيْكَ مَوَاهِبٌنَفَذَتْ بِهَا الْأَقْدَارُ وَالْأَحْكَامُ

Fāḍat mina al-mawlā ʿalayka mawāhibun, Nafadhat bihā al-ʾaqdāru wa-al-ʾaḥkāmu

Gifts poured upon you from the Master, through which destinies and decrees came to pass.

مَا نَالَ ذُو شَرَفٍ وَقَدْرٍ مِثْلَهَاوَلِكُلِّ رَاقٍ فِي الدُّنُوِّ مَقَامُ

Mā nāla dhū sharafin waqadrin mithlahā, Walikulli rāqin fī ad-dunuwwi maqāmu

No one of honour and rank attained their like, and everyone who rises in nearness has a station.

اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ مَا بَلَغْتَ لِرُتْبَةٍإِلَّا وَنَادَتْكَ الْمَرَامُ أَمَامُ

Allāhu akbaru mā balaghta lirutbatin, Illā wanādatka al-marāmu amāmu

Allah is Greatest! You never reached a rank but the goal called to you: "Further ahead!"

فَلَكَ التَّرَقِّي وَالتَّلَقِّي لَمْ يَزَلْوَلَكَ الْمَلَائِكُ فِي الْعُلَى خُدَّامُ

Falaka at-taraqqī wa-at-talaqqī lam yazal, Walaka al-malāʾiku fī al-ʿulā khuddāmu

Yours are ascent and reception without end, and the angels on high are your servants.

اِخْتَارَكَ الْمَوْلَى نَجِيًّا بَعْدَمَاجَاوَزْتَ مَالَا لِلْعُقُولِ يُرَامُ

Ikhtāraka al-mawlā najiyyan baʿdamā, Jāwazta mālā lilʿuqūli yurāmu

The Master chose you as His intimate after you passed beyond what minds can aspire to.

وَدَنَوْتَ مِنْهُ دُنُوَّ حَقٍّ أَمْرُهُفِينَا عَلَى أَفْكَارِنَا الْإِبْهَامُ

Wadanawta minhu dunuwwa ḥaqqin amruhu, Fīnā ʿalā afkārinā al-ʾibhāmu

You drew near to Him with a true nearness whose nature remains, for our thoughts, a mystery.

وَبَلَغْتَ أَوْ أَدْنَى وَتِلْكَ مَزِيَّةٌعُظْمَى وَأَسْرَارُ الْحَبِيبِ عِظَامُ

Wabalaghta aw adnā watilka maziyyatun, ʿuẓmā waʾasrāru al-ḥabībi ʿiẓāmu

You reached "or nearer," and that is a mighty distinction; and the secrets of the beloved are mighty.

فَلْيَهْنَكَ السِّرُّ الَّذِي أُوتِيتَهُوَالْقُرْبُ وَالْإِجْلَالُ وَالْإِكْرَامُ

Falyahnaka as-sirru al-ladhī ūtītahu, Wa-al-qurbu wa-al-ʾijlālu wa-al-ʾikrāmu

Joy to you of the secret you were given, of nearness, majesty and honour!

مِنْ حَضْرَةٍ عُلْوِيَّةٍ قُدْسِيَّةٍقَدْ وَاجَهَتْكَ تَحِيَّةٌ وَسَلَامُ

Min ḥaḍratin ʿulwiyyatin qudsiyyatin, Qad wājahatka taḥiyyatun wasalāmu

From a lofty, holy Presence greetings and peace came to meet you.

فَسَمِعْتَ مَالَا يُسْتَطَاعُ سَمَاعُهُوَعَقَلْتَ مَا عَنْهُ الوَرَى قَدْ نَامُوا

Fasamiʿta mālā yustaṭāʿu samāʿuhu, Waʿaqalta mā ʿanhu al-warā qad nāmū

You heard what cannot be heard, and understood that to which creation was asleep.

مَا لِلْعُقُولِ تَصَوُّرٌ لِحَقِيْقَةٍيَأْتِيكَ مِنْهَا الْوَحْيُ وَالْإِلْهَامُ

Mā lilʿuqūli taṣawwurun liḥaqiyqatin, Yaʾtīka minhā al-waḥyu wa-al-ʾilhāmu

Minds cannot conceive the reality from which revelation and inspiration come to you.

يَا سَيِّدَ الْكَوْنَيْنِ يَا خَيْرَ الْوَرَىوَافَاكَ مِمَّنْ يَرْتَجِيكَ نِظَامُ

Yā sayyida al-kawnayni yā khayra al-warā, Wāfāka mimman yartajīka niẓāmu

O master of both worlds, O best of creation, verse has come to you from one who hopes in you,

عَبْدٌ بِحُبِّكَ لَا يَزَالُ مُوَلَّعًاوَلَهُ إِلَيْكَ تَشَوُّقٌ وَهُيَامُ

ʿabdun biḥubbika lā yazālu muwallaʿan, Walahu ilayka tashawwuqun wahuyāmu

A servant forever devoted to loving you, with longing and rapture toward you,

حُبٌّ تَمَكَّنَ فِي الْحَشَا فَلِنَارِهِبَيْنَ الْأَضَالِعِ وَالْجُنُوبِ ضِرَامُ

Ḥubbun tamakkana fī al-ḥashā falinārihi, Bayna al-ʾaḍāliʿi wa-al-junūbi ḍirāmu

A love firmly rooted in the heart, whose fire blazes between the ribs and the sides.

فَأَغِثْهُ يَا غَوْثَ اللَّهِيفِ بِنَفْحَةٍتُشْفَى بِهَا الْأَمْرَاضُ وَالْأَسْقَامُ

Faʾaghithhu yā ghawtha Allāhiyfi binafḥatin, Tushfā bihā al-ʾamrāḍu wa-al-ʾasqāmu

So help him, O helper of the anguished, with a breath by which illnesses and sicknesses are healed,

وَامْنُنْ عَلَيْهِ بِنَظْرَةٍ يُمْحَى بِهَاعَنْ قَلْبِهِ الْأَدْرَانُ وَالْإِظْلَامُ

Wamnun ʿalayhi binaẓratin yumḥā bihā, ʿan qalbihi al-ʾadrānu wa-al-ʾiẓlāmu

And grace him with a glance by which the stains and darkness are erased from his heart,

يَمْتَدُّ مِنْهَا سِرُّهُ بِلَطَائِفٍيَقْوَى بِهَا الْإِيمَانُ وَالْإِسْلَامُ

Yamtaddu minhā sirruhu bilaṭāʾifin, Yaqwā bihā al-ʾīmānu wa-al-ʾislāmu

Through which his inmost self extends with subtle gifts by which faith and Islam are strengthened,

وَعَلَى صِرَاطِكَ يَسْتَقِيْمُ بِشَاهِدٍمِنْ عِلْمِهِ ثَبَتَتْ بِهِ الْأَقْدَامُ

Waʿalā ṣirāṭika yastaqiymu bishāhidin, Min ʿilmihi thabatat bihi al-ʾaqdāmu

And he stands upright on your path with a witness from his knowledge by which his feet are made firm.

يَا مَنْ عَلَيْهِ مُعَوَّلِي فِي كُلِّ مَاأَرْجُو وَمِنْهُ الْفَضْلُ وَالْإِنْعَامُ

Yā man ʿalayhi muʿawwalī fī kulli mā, Arjū waminhu al-faḍlu wa-al-ʾinʿāmu

O you on whom I rely in all I hope for, and from whom come bounty and blessing,

مَا أَمَّكَ الرَّاجُونَ إِلَّا أَدْرَكُوامِنْ فَيْضِ جُودِكَ وَالْعَطَا مَا رَامُوا

Mā ammaka ar-rājūna illā adrakū, Min fayḍi jūdika wa-al-ʿaṭā mā rāmū

Never did those who hope come to you but they obtained from the flood of your generosity and gifts what they sought.

بِالْبَابِ قُمْتُ وَأَنْتَ أَعْظَمُ مَطْلَبٍتَشْتَاقُهُ الأَرْوَاحُ وَالأَجْسَامُ

Bi-al-bābi qumtu waʾanta aʿẓamu maṭlabin, Tashtāquhu al-ʾarwāḥu wa-al-ʾajsāmu

I stand at the door, and you are the greatest goal, for whom spirits and bodies long.

فَاسْمَحْ وَجُدْ لِي بِالوِصَالِ فَفِي الحَشَاشَوْقٌ إِلَيْكَ وَلَوْعَةٌ وَغَرَامُ

Fasmaḥ wajud lī bi-al-wiṣāli fafī al-ḥashā, Shawqun ilayka walawʿatun wagharāmu

So be generous and grant me union, for in my heart is longing for you, anguish and passion.

وَعَلَيْكَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ يَا عَلَمَ الهُدَىمَا غَرَّدَتْ فَوْقَ الغُصُونِ حَمَامُ

Waʿalayka ṣallā Allāhu yā ʿalama al-hudā, Mā gharradat fawqa al-ghuṣūni ḥamāmu

And may Allah bless you, O banner of guidance, as long as doves sing upon the branches,

وَالْآلِ وَالْأَصْحَابِ يَا نِعْمَ الْأُولَىسَبَقُوا وَأَصْحَابُ الكَرِيْمِ كِرَامُ

Wa-al-ʾāli wa-al-ʾaṣḥābi yā niʿma al-ʾūlā, Sabaqū waʾaṣḥābu al-kariymi kirāmu

And your family and Companions, what excellent ones who came first! And the companions of the noble are noble.
