Aktum Hawana

Shaykh Abu Bakr bin Salim

Ktum hawānā in aradtta riḍānā, Waḥdhar tubīḥu bisirrinā lisiwānā

Conceal our love if you want our good pleasure, and beware of revealing our secret to others.

Khḍaʿ lanā in kunta rājī waṣlanā, Watruk munāka idhā aradta munānā

Humble yourself before us if you hope for our union, and leave your wishes if you want our wishes.

Wajʿal wuqūfaka mā baqīta bibābinā, Falaʿalla an taḥẓā binā watarānā

Make your standing, as long as you live, at our door; perhaps you will be granted us and see us.

Faʾidhā qaḍayta ḥuqūqanā yā muddaʿiy, ʿāyantanā fī al-kāʾināti ʿayānā

When you have fulfilled our rights, O claimant, you will see us plainly in all created things.

Awa mā ʿalimta biʾannanā ahlu al-wafāʾ, Wamuḥibbunā mā zāla taḥta liwānā

Do you not know that we are the people of faithfulness, and whoever loves us remains beneath our banner?

Naḥnu al-kirām faman atānā qāṣidā, Nāla as-saʿādata ʿindamā yalqānā

We are the generous; whoever comes to us seeking attains happiness when he meets us.

Fanhaḍ biʿazmin lā takūnu muqaṣṣiran, Wanẓur tarā al-ʿushshāqa ḥawla ḥimānā

So rise with resolve, do not fall short, and look: you will see the lovers around our sanctuary,

Mustabshirīna binayli mā qad ammalū, Fariḥīna mudh naẓarū al-jamāla ʿayānā

Rejoicing at attaining what they hoped for, glad since they saw the beauty plainly.

Hāmū biʿashqatihim sukārā ʿindamā, Kushifa al-ḥijāb washāhadū maʿnānā

They wandered, drunk with their love, when the veil was lifted and they witnessed our meaning.

Fahumu al-murādu lā yurādu siwāhumu, Fa-al-qalbu mushtaghilun bihim walhānā

They are the desired; none is desired but them, and the heart is occupied with them, lovesick.

Karrir lisamʿī dhikrahum waḥadīthahum, Taʿmal maʿī biḥayātihim iḥsānā

Repeat to my ear their remembrance and their talk; by their life, you will do me a kindness.

Yā rabba makkata wa-aṣ-ṣafā bimuḥammadin, Ghfir lanā yā sāmiʿan liduʿānā

O Lord of Mecca and al-Safa, by Muhammad, forgive us, O Hearer of our prayer.

Thumma aṣ-ṣalātu ʿalā an-nabiyyi waʾālihi, Mā ḥarrakat rīḥu aṣ-ṣabā aghṣānā

Then blessings upon the Prophet and his family, as long as the east wind stirs the branches.
